For me it's two major factors: a tangible personality, and the potential for growth. A great character needs a real human personality, someone who's not just a caricature of an archetype. The most popular characters are the ones people feel like they've gotten to know, and would probably like to spe…
What an interesting topic, really cool seeing everybody evolve! It's impossible to find my real first comic, since I've been making strips for as long as I can remember. But I think I can find the first one I ever posted online.... 2007, my first legit comic strip. [image] 2008, my first comic …
I am. And the reason for my lack in line weight is because I'm so heavily inspired by guys like Geof Darrow and Moebius, but I didn't realize how much their style relies on color. So I'm adding color and it's making all the difference. [image]
I ink digitally. But yeah, I understand the line weight criticism. I believe adding color should fix that pretty easily...hopefully lol.
Oh hell yeah, thanks so much! I originally intended on coloring these, which is why the line weight doesn't really vary much. I'm strongly considering it still. I was recently inspired by an artist named Geoff Darrow and wanted to try and emulate his line style, though I realize now that it really…
idk man, numbers don't lie And I'm pretty sure if CN did a poll, either Steven or Garnet would be #1, especially after the recent episodes.
It's very hard work to make the protagonist the most popular character. I can honestly count on one hand the number of comics I'm aware of where the hero is unanimously the most popular character. I think the reason for this is the philosophy that a hero is only as good as their villain, so the vill…
I just uploaded the first three pages of my new comic Dies Irae yesterday, and I'd love some feedback. I have 32 pages sketched out for the first chapter, and plan on doing three chapters max. So this one will be kind of short. Any suggestions on an effective upload schedule? Any critique on the art…
To me the easiest and often most effective titles for a comic is just....the name of the main protagonist (assuming you have a central hero), or something that sums up the theme of your comic rather than who or what's in it. Or you can go the path of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Scott Pilgrim vs The …
My design process is....chaotic, to say the least lol. Here's the one and only design drawing vs the final product for Thomas P Wilbourn. [image] [image]
To me, the greatest sin you can commit as a comic artist/writer is the "wall of text." This is a visual medium, and the art should always work in tandem with the story. Here's an example, if you're fortunate to have never experienced it. [image] Pages like this just destroy pacing, and can someti…
Hi there! So my comic Thomas P Wilbourn is a weird scenario. It's only two chapters in, and more than half the cast of characters are introduced within the second chapter, so I haven't had the time to really flesh them out. I have an almost one to one ratio of boys to girls of various ethnicities (t…
