New looks come and go and people usually calm down pretty quickly after the change so I don't really care that much one way or another about the aesthetic update. But the new comic navigation system is objectively worse than the old one. What happened to the everscroll? And why does it think y…

I mean there are so many ways you could do it there's not really any answer somebody can give that would be more or less correct for any given situation. Star Wars didn't introduce the audience to Luke Skywalker until nearly a third of the way through the film, for crying out loud!

I don't do Adobe software anymore. They'll probably update it to subscription model once it has enough users. EDIT: In fact they will! It's only free for six months, then it's pay up or shut up.

I always imagined Claire sounding like a slightly higher-pitched Jenna Coleman. [image] I haven't got any specific person as Zoey's voice in mind but given she's an LA girl she probably sounds like a character from Buffy. [image] No idea for Reese. Most notable male people with Northe…

My first thought was "The Worst Toilet In Scotland" bit from Trainspotting Warning: Do NOT look up that video if you have a weak gag reflex.

Apparently you can't edit old posts, so I'm adding a reply to cover this. You can now apply some limited transformations to text layers in Clip. Sadly this is still a far cry from full blown manipulation of text layers, but it is at least a start. Hopefully they're working on adding more flexi…

Be prepared to accept the fact that you're going to suck, and that you will continue to suck for a long while. Nobody except for freaks of nature is going to automatically be good at drawing, or gets good in a matter of weeks/months. Keep archives of your old art. Look back at it from time to t…

More or less what I do too. The vector layers are so nice in that you can do stuff like fix a line after its drawn or get lines to cut off where they cross with the vector eraser. I do find that the redraw line tool can be a bit shonky though, you try to correct one part of a line and a differe…

If that's so then it sounds like hype to me because the whole problem with ANNs prior to the new approaches was that backpropagation algorithms could only affect a single hidden layer in meaningful ways. A network with two hidden layers couldn't be trained because it wasn't clear which layer was th…

I did a module or two on Artificial Intelligence during my Bachelor's degree. This is only one of many possible ways of aping intelligence in machines, in this particular case it's called a Genetic Algorithm, because it models the process of evolution and natural selection. Random "mutations" are …

It's really not. Unless the characters are so stylised they barely look human I really have a hard time telling them apart. Thanks for telling me how my eyesight works, though.

I'm not a huge fan, simply because my eyesight is poor and without colour cues I struggle to tell characters apart.

It should be noted that Apple threatened to remove the Tapas app from the store, on the grounds that several of the comics were not what Apple considered suitable content. Tapas had to bend over backwards to avoid the ban, and thankfully they decided to do it in a way that didn't replicate the Tumb…

I'd say it depends. If having the extra material adds some flavour to the story but is entirely optional than that's fine. If not having it is detrimental to the story then that's definitely not fine. The story should contain the minimum amount of detail needed for it to stand on its own. On the…

It might have left a temporary file that's corrupted behind (most software these days has some kind of facility to preserve the state it was last running in should it crash) Might be worth finding out if it saves any temp files whilst running and deleting them before attempting to start it again.

It means sickeningly sentimental, often in a deliberately manipulative way. Think images of big-eyed, sad, deprived but photogenic children like you see in charity adverts.

Is this just because they're American based? Seems like American sites are really getting pounded lately.

The Prodigy! (RIP Keith)

The original Playstation! Including Gran Tourismo... ...wipEout... ... Tome Raider... ... and Final Fantasy 7, the first FF game to get a UK release

The comic I'm working on is about university so most of my main characters are 18 years old and in their first year. Zoey is in her final year and 21 years old. Of course the teachers and lecturers run the gamut age-wise but I'm still working on fleshing out the supporting cast.

The very idea that these are remotely comparable is just asinine. Not believing the same thing as you do does not put me or anybody else in mortal danger. Any claim to the contrary needs some BIG evidence to back it up.

No, they're being a-holes and honestly this is why I hate bible thumpers. If they think that kind of behaviour is going to win anybody over they're sorely mistaken.

I believe there still is a free version, but it's highly restricted, and they also impose restrictions on what you can do with the content you create with it.

I did have a look at sketchup back in the day, but its current status as non-free is kind of offputting and it felt kind of clunky to me in use. Blender seems far more powerful, plus it's not going to put any restrictions on what I can or can't do with the work I create with it

I've always struggled with doing backgrounds and I had the idea of maybe using 3D software to build up some sets which I can then use to do the backgrounds. That way I won't have to worry about keeping them consistent, I can get a better sense of spacial layout, I only need to make a model once to …

Having said that, doing offensive things in your writing just for the sake of doing it to be "edgy" can end up making you look really immature, lazy or just unpleasant. For example, it's generally discouraged to use rape as a way to trigger some drama in a story, not because it's abhorrent or offen…

Okay, the fact of the matter is that you're going to offend somebody sooner or later with your work. Might as well just make the work you want to make and let it be judged for what it is rather than try to second-guess what other people may think. People launched a campaign to get the Teletubbies …
