Quality post Jess! Fantastic work!
Hooray!!! So happy with how this last panel turned out!
My writing path was a bit winding at first, but eventually I settled into a pattern that I've stuck with for a while. Here's how I wrote Whetstone: 1. Write the story in its entirety, or at least as much as you can, as if it were a novel. 2. Divide that story into sections of reasonable length that …
I find that I derive more value from a written work if the title does indeed have some relation to the material within. I absolutely love those "aha!" moments, when the titles' meaning reveals itself within the context of the story.
Well then, high-five! Thanks for the insight Greg!
Hah! This is best answer I've seen.
I may have missed this advice if somebody has already stated it previously, but have you considered simply making your instagram account private?
So many great replies, thanks everyone! We're a diverse group, to say the least. To those of you who I may someday meet, and to those of you who will never interact with their fellow creators beyond the glow of an LCD screen, I offer my sincere gratitude for the insights and advice. Especially the k…
I would only 'borrow' them for a little while...
Love the artwork! Well done!
It's so neat to hear that you've gotten back into it after such a long hiatus! How fun! Four kids!? Our first is due this November. I'm imagining it won't lend itself to comic writing very well in the early months.
@christinaeliz I've been to the NASA Plumbrook Station in Sandusky, does that count!? I've actually yet to attend a comic-con. My illustrators are much more versed in the various con's and are great about alerting me to them, but I probably won't start attending them until next year.
My 2 cats ar…
@keii4ii Word-deaf is new to me, sorry to hear that you suffer mildly from it. I can't say I relate on the social life portion, but I certainly have a few (one dog, two felines) fur babies. Comic writing is a relatively new hobby of mine, and I tend to fit it in sporadically. I really enjoy it, and …
Feel free to check out our (relatively new) comic: Whetstone https://tapastic.com/series/Whetstone Thus far only the Prologue and first half of Chapter 1 are posted. We do post regularly though, with a new page being released every Wednesday.
The conch shell has been blown. Gather, 30-somethings, and chat with your peers so that we may pool our collective tips and tricks. How do you budget your time and money in pursuit of your comic hobby? How long have you been at it? Why haven't we met at a comic-con for drinks and high-fives? D…
2 - Hobbyist. Lots of fun to write and produce comics, but I don't ever expect to make money from it.
I don't use a pseudonym based on personal preference. That is, I enjoy being able to learn more about the various authors responsible for the books, music, and other forms of media that I enjoy. I feel that were I to use one, somebody who may enjoy what I've created might also want to learn more abo…
I'm an Economist by degree. I currently work at a solar company. I wrote the comic below, @jessicasurline is illustrating it: https://tapastic.com/episode/223979
