Yes! I enjoy giving people little gifts, and that includes art. I've gotten anything from "oh yeah, thanks" to people keeping a painting for years. I'm glad she loved your animation, what a thoughtful present! Animating things takes so much time and effort

Understandable, and glad you have a side project for some extra juice. I'm working on redrawing some pages myself  . Wish you luck!

I'm not familiar with Drew Gooden, but I do watch a lot of Twitch -- it seems to be the overall opinion that Twitch is hard to grow on, requires a very specific skillset, and it is a very hard job/place to showcase one's work. Many popular people have tried it out and bounced right off! IMO, it's…

Hmm, many businesses fail, and I think the world will probably hit a recession for several years in the future.. which doesn't make #2's chances look good. So personally, I'd pick #1 as long as knew it had decent fundamentals. Now if I didn't have to choose between the two, I'd invest in a set o…

I'm about 300 comic pages in, with maybe... 3 chapters left? So maybe 70% done. It took me around 2.5-3 years to get here. Of course... I didn't actually start with a set story, so part of that length is on me. But the purpose of the comic was to learn how to make comics, so I'm actually overall …

I suppose anything with high stress and low purpose (which is quite a few jobs, now that I think of it!). It's one thing to work in a crunch environment for extended periods of time, but if you don't even believe in what you're trying to accomplish? That's a killer. For example, I'd hate being so…

This is a neat idea, I'll bite! I only have one comic on Tapas, so that should make things simple  [image] Summary: A mysterious cottage, a handsome stranger, an ancient wood that comes alive in the dark. With few clues and fewer options, Matthew West must find a place for himself in a stran…

I don't feel too bad. People have their own lives and interests, and sometimes those change. I feel grateful that they spent some time with me (well, my work). But it's just part of life as a creator. And besides... I don't feel guilty not watching every Marvel or Star Wars release, so I think it…

IMO, people are harder to draw just because we're so familiar with what humans look like -- but dogs and cats can also difficult for a similar reason. People will give you way more slack with a shrimp or an okapi because... well, what do they look like, really? They have legs, and they look kind of …

I think #5 is the only one to me that really connects to the story you've described -- the others may be prettier, but suggest that it's going to mostly be about one person's journey. 2, 3, and 8 and maybe 9 strike me as more traditionally attractive. But there's something about having the two pe…

Oh, that's really interesting! Is it for remixing or coloring? Or just to have them as a neat extra? I've seen a ton of brushes, tips, etc., but not source files. Either way, it sounds like you're quite thoughtful about your potential impact

I've heard of audience-voted comics, but I didn't know there were open source webcomics! That's a pretty neat concept.

Strictly as an artist? I want to be skilled enough to be able to Do It All. I love pixel art, for instance, but don't really know how to create something I'd like to see in a video game. Environments, machines, people, whatever! I think artists like Kim Jung Gi, who can and do seemingly just draw wh…

What helps the most is getting started on some small part of the comic, no matter how small. Like "I'm just going to draw some word balloons", or "I'll just refine this one sketch a little". Actually getting started is the hardest part, and will often lead into doing a little more work, and a lit…

Bummer, I'll have to figure that out but thanks all the same

It's been a while since I watched some magical girl anime, but... Appeals: * Female main characters * cute/cool costumes that young girls like (frills, hearts, stars, jewels, ornate armor, depending on the age group), * usually an ensemble cast where you can identify with your favorite magical gi…

I... think I have it enabled? All you need is 250 subs, right? Either way, that's a really cool idea for a thread

Not sure I have much to add in terms of marketing -- I agree with the general idea of making sure the story and its hooks have the spotlight. I'm just impressed that you're tackling an issue that inspires a LOT of instant polarization, but with a fairly even keel. IIRC you do a bunch of reviews o…

I have about... 7, 8 weeks ahead on a weekly updated comic? It's important to me to keep a buffer so I'm on time every week, and I do think this gives me more opportunity to let my drawings "rest" a little. Then I can go back and try to look at things with more of a critical eye :). It also helps…

I would have ditched a lot of the mistaken beliefs around art that I entertained for too long. Things like inborn talent determining whether you should/shouldn't try something, or that artists must always starve, or that work ethic doesn't apply to creative pursuits  Kids have dumb beliefs and ma…

You just reminded me to start using that DA account I signed up for

How beautiful. It's so relaxing to listen to, as well!

Hmm... I see what you're saying; I also am at a loss for how to get around it. ¯\(ツ)/¯ I'm not particularly here to advertise, but I like a pat on the head once in a while myself. And chatting about art things without too much pressure to compare numbers. Back in the day, I feel like there were mo…

I suppose I have a lot of conflicting opinions on critique, but I do like the approach your painting instructor took, namely explaining how to fix mistakes and the effect that the changes he suggested would have on the painting. In fact, I think that's one thing that's missing from a lot of critique…

Unfortunately, I think that some people really just want compliments. Or at least, they don't quite know what kind of critique they want/need, if that makes sense... And then there's the rare occasion where someone really takes offence over a critique and holds on to it, which is unfortunate for…

I haven't personally, but I've just recently started using the forums. Actually, I think forums in general are a lot quieter than they used to be, since people mostly go to big centralized sites these days....could be one reason why.

There are times when I don't really feel like working on a comic, though I'd say the worst burnout I've had was at work, where it was also accompanied by things like brain fog, stress, and (somehow also) boredom. In most cases, I force my way through it. Once I get going, it's a lot easier to keep…

That would be lovely; I can kind of look at my current analytics and guess what caused certain spikes, but ultimately it's often hard to tell. I'll give Tapas credit for being better than Webtoon in that area, though. Webtoon doesn't let me see comments on my comics unless I page through each epi…

Sort of. When I'm doing long shots, I'll do a simplified style with shorter proportions (like 4-5 heads or something instead of 7), and I'll simplify eyes to dots or cartoon circles. I'm also working on some cutesy 4-koma drawings. But I haven't done full metamorphosis into someone else's style ye…

I'd love to know myself, I keep putting tags on my comics but I have no idea how to track if anyone finds my stuff with them :stuck_out_tongue:
