You see, for me Tapas chapters are too short xD so like 4 chapters here are like half a chapter of what I write, so I'd say don't worry about reaching that number within Tapas!
It depends, I've had the experience of readers wanting longer and longer chapters and it's better cause I don't have to split them up so they get to an intimidating number x'D
But answering your questions...
I prefer longer chapters when I'm already hooked to the story, if I don't know the story and see the chapter being long then I can feel put off by it. However, if I like it and I want more, I'll be wanting a really long chapter cause I don't want it to end x'D
As a writer, I believe the story should have the chapters it NEEDS to have. Don't worry about surpassing your contemplated number, stories will almost never be exactly the length you want them to cause once you're writing, more things can flow into the chapter and thus it may need more chapters for that thing to be explained!
I really dislike plot holes, and I like writing what I like to read, thus I take my time with it and in a way I won't regret writing something! I believe something that helps a writer know if something is necessary to write or not, is to put yourself on the shoes of the reader and question yourself if something is of the utmost importance or not.
it doesn't have to be "important" all the time, cause, things that don't seem important can be relevant in other ways or even readers finding out something that was irrelevant at some point, was incredibly important later!
You are the only who knows if you're truly dragging it or not, there will always be people thinking you're making it too long and there will be people that will love it! So it's a matter of you deciding if what you're doing has a purpose or not.
I can feel something is dragging on if the story is not going anywhere or it just turns like meaningless and nothing is happening. So, the best way to avoid 'dragging it on' is to question yourself if what you're doing is actually relevant character wise (like their inner development), if its establishing something for later, if its cathartic or a much needed break from something. It will always depend on the factor of 'why' something is happening, for what purpose. (I write a lot so I'm just gonna leave it here lol)
- As someone new to a story that would for sure intimidate me, however, if the plot is something that interests me I'd give it a one to three chapter try to see if I like the writing... If I like the writing I'm going to be dealing with the inner turmoil of wanting to know more and not wanting it to end XD I can get so obsessed to the point I binge reading and not do anything else lol
My longest chapters on average can reach the 50,000 words, I've done longer but they're not the average lol But this quantity is only acceptable to readers that are already hooked with the story haha. They always tell me they finish it too soon but I just can't write that much always :'D My average chapters are 30,000 and my shortest are 15,000 xD
Thus with the above, you see why I believe Tapas chapters are too short lol
But! As a reader, I rather read loooong chapters instead of read many of them but 'short' chapters that start and finish immediately >_> cause I'd feel ripped off xD so... In this case, knowing Tapas chapters are small, I would actually be relieved the chapters go beyond 100 (Only if I like the story)
But yeaaah that's my particular take on it xD But don't worry! People that like your story will stick around no matter how many episodes it has! As long as its good they'll keep wanting more
So just write to your hearts content. In my opinion, it's impossible to not reach 100 chapters in Tapas so don't feel about it and write on ^^ Tell the story you want and need to tell!
