I dont think its a "toxic takeaway." Besides, people are complex and deals with issues in multifaceted ways.
I think the art looks good. It's simplistic, but in a way that's intentional enough for it to be a style. If you do want more complexity, use gradient like theyrebothakilogram suggested, or add more shadows and shadings.
sfx looks good. If you want to experiment, you could try rotating the sfx so that it's not perfectly horizontal.
You could definitely play more with spacing. Im not the best with scroll format, but spacing should be use to control readers' pacing-- i.e to show time passing, add dramatic pauses, or reveal new info. For example, the panel where she falls could have more space so readers can linger more on her thought
