If the story within the 4panel is good there will always be an audience.
Traditional four panel or yon-koma follows a specific storytelling structure known as kishoutenketsu. It's a structure used in a lot of Japanese stories.
Best to research this is you want to know more but the gist is:
Ki = set up the scene
Shou = continue the scene
Ten = introduce something brand new not in previous two. Surprise.
Ketsu = resolve by showing reaction the old and new together. Aftermath.
Four panels are hard to make cause you have less space for story and that means you have to be more precise. It's like the poetry of comics.
