A community to raise a comic. (beware! clickbait inside!)

so you may be aware that the staff is working on allowing multiple authors to be linked to and contribute to a comic, and I personally can't wait for this feature to HURRY UP AND HAPPEN ALREADY

and one idea I've been brewing for a while now is a comic that's basically owned by EVERYONE on the site, or at least anyone who wants to join in. They could post pages, updates, contests and what have you for it. How it would essentially function is to boost up and coming artists' visibility, by either advertising it on popular places or roping a few high sub comics (strays, starpunch girl, min) into pooling their subscribers together by becoming artists for it. In this way they could post pages and bring in traffic to their main comics.
There would probably have to be a few restrictions, such as don't spam posts so people will not want to unsubscribe, because that would kind of negate the whole comic's intention.

so anyway, how do you like it? and would any of you big name artists out there be willing to lend your sub base to support it should it ever come to fruition?

Sure is a very usefull feature if your making a comic with other artists. No nedd to share accounts anymore!

I dont think mixing wildly differing styles will work with out a guiding vision. Maybe if the various comic types were separated into groups..
Some types of work peep would avoid. Some very worthy stuff has no graphics to speak of.

@ifluke1 unless they were subscribing for the sole purpose of discovering new styles and artists.
@Aloredd aboslutely, you could say, put up a page where you start a story and hope other people will take it from there, or even try to organise your own little story segment.

If it's owned by EVERYONE, what makes it different from, say, the Fresh section which we currently have?

I would say, in that it's a singular comic that would give people updates in their list, rather than have them need to look for it, which doesn't sound like much, but I have firsthand experience in how lazy I and people I know can be sometimes, it'd just increase their chances of getting known if everyone in that sub list got a notification saying "HEY I HAVE ART WANT TO SEE IT!?"

It kind of sounds like it could potentially be Tapastic's version of Deviant Art Groups. Where maybe artist log in to it and add their image file to an episode labeled for a specific thing.

idk, I kind of get the feeling that following a series owned by everyone would lead to a landslide of notifications, most unruly. Abuse of one kind or another might happen (spammy stuff) and it's something that needs heavy moderation.

I'd worry that it would become "white noise" - similar to what @CyndiFoster said about an overload of notifications. It would basically be a variation on the search page - a different way to find new talent, but not significantly different from the main search pages.

Now, @OpalSpike is creating a collaborative comic called "Endless Winter", wherein she is making page 1 of a fantasy story and inviting other creators to sign up for future pages - so each creator can take the story somewhere exciting and different, with different art styles every episode, but a constant storyline throughout. This seems like a neat way to be exposed to different artists and writers, albeit in a more organized fashion.

This is true. I'm running a collaborative comic sort of similar to what you've got going on here.

This seems very.. mish-mash-y. I mean, it's basically taking all comics that exist and posting it into one. xD There's no point in that for me. It seems like it could very quickly turn into a junk or spam folder. I feel the main search pages are just a cleaner idea of this.

Sorry to be bummer xD I could be wrong, that's just my opinion.

@CyndiFoster yeah, it's not a perfect situation, and I don't know how it would be moderated, probably have some sort of contributor tier, where one can't upload without approval from higher up, but at that point it may as well be @OpalSpike's idea.
I dunno, I kind of think I can trust people not to spam it, and ask before posting more than one if they don't know who else would be posting that day, I may even get involved in coordinating it, who knows, though with my current schedule I know that wouldn't be an option.
