I believe I've seen that before, (or something similar to it) used to get passed around inkblazers a lot with the reaction on one side being "omg so coool I would LOVE to work that much on my comics!! I wanna be a mangaka in Japan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and the other being "Poor overworked, slave driven creators... I would not want that schedule."
There's a holy middle-ground there somewhere... with lots of health-care.
Well the life of a mangaka and his/her assistants isn't all that great. The publisher doesn't pay the assistants but rather they pay the mangaka and the assistants take a piece of that paycheck. Plus, they live in Tokyo and is really high cost of living.
This is a pretty darn unhealthy schedule. not to mention pretty dangerous too! I've always wondered how Mangaka are able to remain sane with such a hectic schedule. if anything, I applaud them for that. The hard work they put into their craft is great. but risking your health to to the point of hospitalization is...not really good. that risk could wind up not even finishing the story they love dearly at all. not to mention without much care for their health will surely decrease their life-span.
Holyshit with that kind of workload, I would literally explode.
hahaha i could just see you sitting there at your desk working, and then boom, spontaneous combustion
the end lol
Well, there was a rumor that Kubo had a breakdown when he was working on Zombie Powder. That ended the manga.
About how the mangaka cope with the workload, it seems involve alcohol and cigarettes.
There's absolutely no time for activities that produce ideas and creativity in this schedule - no reading books, visiting new places, no researching new things. I'm not sure how you could start putting together new ideas while working like this.
Dear God. Still, it's a living. A living that I often dream about. That I may never accomplish. But will dream and pray about it.Until my bones dissolve.
