A very important survey that will help show what happens on Tapas(tic)

Alright, if for some reason you've clicked on this post, you're either legitimately curious about what I have to say, or you're just going through all the posts here. Either way, I'll just get straight to the point about what I'm trying to say.

What I'm trying to do is survey Tapas users and collect data from it to write up a research paper of some sort that tries to show how people actually use Tapas.

Sound confusing? Let me try to clear it up.

Tell me if this scenario seems familiar to you.
You know how there are some creators that have subscribed to you, and they seem to do lots of commenting around the website, but never seem to comment on your content? Or how you can have one hundred, two hundred, or even three hundred subscribers, but you barely get any likes or comments?

Sounds weird, right? Normally, if you have a certain amount of subscribers, you'd think that most of them would at least see you content. But for some reason, for a lot of creators out there, they could have some really good content, but for some reason, no one seems to notice them.

Of course, there are always creators that have lots of subscribers and are really popular with their readers, so they get lots of feedback. But from what I've seen, some of the creators of really popular comics and novels don't even seem to acknowledge their readers.

What I'm trying to do here is get information from the users in this website and try to figure out what's going on here. I already have some ideas, but information is what I really need from this sites users, ESPECIALLY from the creators. They're the most important part to my research.
So if you're interested in answering some of my survey questions, PLEASE! Answer them! It would really help me out. Most of them are more focused towards creators, but there are some that aren't too.

1. it actually isn't consistent at all. it goes from 10 to around 40

I'm not entirely sure on views, but likes usually get around 50-60 in the first few days I think. This is also when most comments come in, and it can be anywhere from 1-5 usually (excluding my own replies of course). Not a ton of engagement, but enough to assure me people are still reading haha.

2) How serious are you when it comes to making Web comics or Web novels? Are you aspiring to actually become an artist or a writer or are you doing this stuff just for fun?

Serious, although I still have a lot to improve upon.

3) What genre do you usually create comics or write stories for?

My current comic is fantasy. I'd say I lean toward fantasy, horror, and lgbt romance for most of my projects.

4) How do you usually find other comics or stories on Tapas? Word of mouth? Daily Snack? Premium, Popular, Trending or Fresh? Or even suggestions?

All of the above excluding premium (I have yet to find the premium comic(s) for me! someday!) and daily snack (I don't use the app). I also find some good stuff through the forums.

I've been uploading my comic since October 2017.

Not often!! But I'm really trying to get better at that. I want to connect with other creators and let them know that they should feel proud of what they do. I'm also a very anxious and shy person, so there have been a million times where I've typed up a comment and backed out at the last minute.

Usually I'll think about commenting if I really love the art in a particular comic update, or if the author asks a question in their author's comment. I don't generally comment on story-happenings. Not sure why. I just like to enjoy the stories in silence.

Considering the only series I've updated is one for bonus content/extras it goes from about 5-10 on day one then trickles down to maybe 2-3 after. The patter was the same when my main series updated so I'm curious of what'll change when I finally start fresh. total veiws on main series was....? 27.4k....ah

At the core I do want to become a serious artist but dealing with certain things makes finding the motivation hard sometimes, especially when I've got a habit of burning myself out every so often

The primary series I'm releasing will be slice of life but I'm planing to dive into other genres like sci-fi, fantasy and paranormal with other future releases

At first it was the front page and the fresh section (so stuff in trending or new and noteworthy), nowadays I'll browse topics on the forums and find people's novels/comics. I follow a few premium comics but I'll usually wait a bit for reading to save up coins for updates ;;;

I've got a total of 498, but given I've been on here a while there's a chance a good portion of them are inactive accounts

2) Pretty serious, in a way. I do have the aspiration to be a writer someday. I'm lazy and unmotivated, sometimes for long stretches, so I feel that I needed to be more serious. So: always serious in intention, sometimes amateur hour when doing the deed.

I'll average the stats between my two most popular series, since they've been running the longest.

1. views: 25k, likes: 2k, and 35 or so comments? (not counting my replies, and these are for average episodes where nothing particularly outrageous happens (no nsfw/big reveals/new characters).
2. This is pretty much what I'm doing full time.
3. I try to do different things, but usually drama, romance, slice of life, or any combination of them.
4. I used to browse the Fresh section every couple of hours to see what's new. But lately I've been more busy so I'm not seeking new reads as much.
5. In total: 45k, how many of those are active though I am unsure.
6. Since I'm on my laptop most of the day anyway working, desktop.
7. A little over 3 years.
8. I usually give most updates in my feed a like, unless there is something I particularly don't agree with in the update (like character actions or something). I comment if something really moves me. My profile says i've given 3.5k likes and 2k comments. I automatically like the latest page the comic has since I wouldn't have subscribed to it if I didn't like the comic itself. It's also acts like a bookmark to remind me the latest page I read. I almost always comment on the comics I read... maybe around 75%... but if I feel that the creator is just ignoring the comments then I won't bother commenting in the future pages.

I try to comment on every single episode in series of people I consider my tapas friends. When I discover a new series, I usually go on a commenting/liking spree when catching up- and depending on author's responses, I keep commenting on new episodes or not c: In other series, I comment only when I have something more to say than just "nice"... but that doesn't happen a lot ; v; Also, I'm more likely to comment if I see that creator replies to comments.

I've wanted to be an author since I was in sixth grade. Now, I just wanna be a creator in general. I wanna be an author and poet, and I'd love to be in a band. My novels go toward a world I've been building for over seven years with a friend. Plus I hate work and money (I even couch surf, and I'm technically homeless, since my mom recently passed.), so I'm pretty damn serious when it comes to my writing. I'd love to get paid for it so I could reimburse my supportive friends. Writing will always be my main outlet.

Fantasy/psychological fiction. The world we have exists after the creators of it destroyed this world, though, so sci-fi elements and other stuff exists, too. We even have a city dedicated to skating. xD

I joined because of the Writer's Contest ads on Instagram, which is the only form of social media I use. Thought it might be a good place to post for some feedback, because none of my friends read.I found most stories from the contest, but lately I check profiles in the forums for the creators work and find some really interesting looking stuff!

I comment after some of the episodes I read. If I have a reply to the author's note at the bottom, or something stood out to me in the work, I'll usually speak up. Which I usually don't do online at all. I'll like something if I really enjoy its concept, or the way the ideas are portrayed. If I like the way something's written, that's usually a comment, rather than a like.

I always like when a comic I subscribe to updates, unless I actively object against the content. I like updates from other comics when I see something in particular that I enjoy, like a beautiful image or a cool line of dialogue. When I find a comic I really like, I usually make a comment on the latest update to say why I think it's great. I also comment if I have a question, or think of something funny to say.

2) How serious are you when it comes to making Web comics or Web novels? Are you aspiring to actually become an artist or a writer or are you doing this stuff just for fun?
I take it seriously in so much as I want to create the best work I can. I'd like to be able to sell copies but I already have a full time job and don't plan on trying to make a living with comics/novels.

3) What genre do you usually create comics or write stories for?
Action stories with romance mixed in, romance stories with action mixed in. Also a big fan of inserting fantasy/supernatural elements.

4) How do you usually find other comics or stories on Tapas? Word of mouth? Daily Snack? Premium, Popular, Trending or Fresh? Or even suggestions?
If I see a really interesting icon on the front page I'll check it out, but mostly I find new series by checking out people who follow me. If I get a new follow who has a series of their own I'll take a look, and sometimes I'll check out other series that they follow (since I know they have good taste ;D)

5) If you're a creator, how many subscribers do you have?
1820 on one account, 292 on another (though there is crossover)

6) Do you mainly use the Tapas mobile app or the Desktop site for reading comics and novels?
Both equally.

7) How long have you been on this site, anyway?
Just over a year!

8) How often do you like, and comment on other people's content? And on what kinds of content do you like and comment on? In fact, how often do you even consider commenting on stuff, anyway? (yeah, I know, I'm really stressing the comments here)
I'll usually like every update that I read. There are a handful of series I really like that I will make an effort to comment on every time I can think of something, but otherwise I won't unless sometimes super interesting happened or I have question.

I'm on a hiatus right now but I'll try to answer them all from what I remember...

1- Usually 15 to 20 views, at least 3 likes and up to 2 comments.

2- I am serious about becoming a professional artist but lately I'm not taking my comics too serious... I have some plans for the next semester though.

3- I like comedy and adventure, but I'm probably not very good at comedy and everyting I do ends up in drama.

4- I rarely have time to read comics, but when I do, I find them by Word of mouth (people sharing it in social media) or by reading the Daily Snack.

5- 69 disappointed people ( hold on, I'll do more stuff soon ;-; ).

6- I prefer the mobile app for reading.

7- Hmm, almost 3 years. (But I dissapeared for a semester twice during this time).

8- I like most of the comics I read (if not, it's because I forgot). I usually comment when someting is relatable or if I found something really worth complimenting.
