That's certainly one way to have it be more accessible, but Soundcloud has an upload limit of 3 hours if you don't pay to upgrade your account. So like, if one were to make an audiobook styled recording, the length of a chapter as well as the reading speed plays into how much they'd be able to cover.
A Pro account is $6/month billed yearly or $8/month billed monthly and basically gives a user about 6 hours instead of 3 hours. There's other benefits if you're an artist trying to make money off of music, but for hosting recordings like that, that's the only one, I'd say. It might be just enough for a short novel, but then again, you never know how long the recording process would go. Going Pro Unlimited at $12/month billed yearly or $16/month billed monthly gives a user unlimited upload time which might be right up the OP's alley.
If anything, they might be able to upload it to Youtube with less issues?? But then you lose the function of joining it up with Tapas on browser so.. ehhhh idk
