I tried to do some research on this subject, and couldn't find an answer to my exact question, but forgive me if it's been asked and answered before!

I recently passed 100 subscribers (yay!) and was able to unlock ad revenue. While I have no expectations to make any serious money off the ad revenue service, I was wondering if there was a way to estimate how long it might take to make any money from it (I mean even just pennies worth). I know the dashboard shows your ad views for the month, but that seems to be it. Basically what I'm wondering is, it there a certain amount of views that would equal 1 cent? Like, as an example, say 500 ad impressions would be equal to earning 1 cent.

Or is there not a specific view number you have to meet and perhaps it could even vary based on the ad that was viewed? Sorry if this wasn't asked clearly. it's just something I was curious about!

Ad revenue varies wildly and is very hard to predict, both because the value varies depending on the ad in question, and also there's no way of predicting whether the views you're getting are from people running adblock or not. But a big thing to be aware of is that you only get paid if you hit a certain threshold of ad impressions within about a 24 hour period that equals at least 1 cent. (It usually seems to line up with getting 200-300 views/100+ ad impressions for me but again, variable).

So, a lot of times people get confused because they see they've gotten hundreds of ad impressions over the course of a month, but never made anything from them. And in that case, the answer usually is that they never got enough within that 24 hour-ish period for it to pay out. Bit of a bummer, but that seems to be how it works.

Thank you!

I assumed it could vary based on the ad itself, but I didn't realize it was based only on daily views. And yeah, that was basically my exact confusion and that clears in up perfectly. Thank you so much for the explanation, that helped a lot!

It's also worth being aware that even if you do make money, you can only withdraw the money once you:

  1. Have 250 subs.
  2. Have accumulated $25 USD or more in ad revenue and/or ink donations received at least 30 days ago.
  3. Have a paypal account to withdraw it to.

You can usually unlock ink donations and stuff early by asking the staff at the November Inksgiving event. Overall, ad impressions will only amount to enough to withdraw when you're over about 10k subs or more. At 1500 subs myself, I make an average of 10-20 cents a month from ad revenue, so I've only ever been able to withdraw when I've had ink donations. :sweat_02:

Ah, I wasn't aware about the 250 subs part! I'll have to remember that about the Inksgiving event as well

Goodness, there are so many layers involved with revenue that I didn't realize. Thanks for the additional info!
