100$ for 100k views would be really nice, actually! Ive heard about 100 bucks for 1 million views... but yes, we'll only know for real when starting to update in august.

has anyone gotten accepted yet?
im very worried about the strict no-mature-stuff policy..

it's very unclear what will be okay cos:

ive deleted any NSFW scenes i had..but i still have some kissing scenes with a little over-the-pants-action lol and a butt in a non sexual way..also some cartoon dicks plus i probably have some bad words..but ahh how strict will they be, i wonder...
i have over 700k us views monthly..so its not a low-profile comic..they even promoted my comic on the front page in the carousel before.. so they gotta have been okay with my content then? right? but now i scared..

I am no where near close to this xP But I might try the two upload per week (shorter strip, but it might help me out seeing as the one update per week isn't O_O). I am not liking some that will go the 'one page' route. Don't mind them splitting out their update for better results...but to move from scrolling to a single page each day seems drastic. Maybe split it in two is better if you were always a weekly scrolling update instead of going directly to 1-day one page just cause of this and not for creative reasons.

@bear1 Your comic works perfect for the daily update and you have always been doing that so fans are use to it I'll take you advice and try a multi update (but just two a week). I am not getting subs, so might as well try things that might increase my subs.

Also the reason you got subs is cause your series is amazing! I am glad you finally getting the attention it deserved!

Clean it up

I think the problem is that Google Ads (and other ads) want clean content and DO NOT want to be linked to porn or semi-porn or lascivious/violent/indulgent stuff. I doubt it is a problem with the people running Webtoons, but if they want the cash--clean it up.

So Webtoons might have to bend to the all-mighty power of...THE DOLLAR. And everyone else will, too, if they want revenue in this system.

That's really good views!

I understand people's sadness, however, that might be the route for FEATURED folks and the plebs in the revenue program have to work differently until featured. IF they want revenue.

Frankly, I think the whole paradigm fostered by gatekeepers is crap. The scrolling comics are mostly crap. And there is ONE GIANT REASON for this, in my unhumble opinion--->

RAMBLING

Most comics degrade quickly (or start out) in a BABBLE-mode of endless headshots or extreme closeups of eyes and mouths and hands to avoid drawing. It is soooooo easy to draw 20 panels of eyes and hands instead of doing 3 huge perspective detail shots and then 3 group shots with ground and feet and then 3 panels of medium shots and 10 panels of extreme closeups. So the comics quickly become "GIMME MONEY YOU MUFFUCKSUNSABISH!" as artists blast out endless confusion for 20 panels, 2x a month, and laugh their way to the bank. The stories on most comics on Webtoons just go nowhere...

Kids stand in corridor mumbling and stuttering.
Kids discuss who they like.
Kids stand around for another 30 episodes discussing how they are afraid to confess.

And on and on. Or you can substitute "kids" with "armed warriors" and "corridor" with "dark woods" or "dark dungeon".

If people work on their writing, shorten content, post every other day, and make a story point with every "page", they will probably have better content that will ultimately help Webtoons. Because it's getting boring with all the corridor discussions, or dark forest discussions, or dungeon discussions.

@Lesser I agree. As I said earlier in my previous comment, the pledge program is easily abused and its really frustrating to see... Now that small creators could have their chances (the minimum requirement is considerably nice actually).

@Yaruno I agree to the part that most story comics (thriller) would be badly affected by this. Since it would pull out all the tension and excitement down the drain. Im also finding a way to get past this since I go for a minimum panel size (10+ panels) ever single time I update. If youd like a suggestion from me(a nobody), why dont you use the Glacias huge subs to promote a more comfy comic. Not only will it do good since creators could now promote many comics but it would also help you relax at some point and I think its fun doing it. (Glacias art style might definitely different from comfy, I know that but just a lowball suggestion)

In my case, I could upload an extra 4-koma episodes to strenghten the character interactions and story depth. Best way is to upload it all at the same time(probably 3-5 strips) so that the reader wouldnt feel spammed and just go check it whenever they had the time. I know I cant explain it the best way but I hope Im making a point here.

Webtoons isn't working against their own interests, though it might go against the interests of some artists.

By getting people to go daily (or bi-daily/tri-daily) with smaller comics, they also encourage greater visitor frequency. Last year I noticed a lot of readers made Webtoons a weekly habit. With more updates it will become daily! And that will help the web ranks for the site.

They might go from 40mil visitors a months to 80mil visitors a month and conquer the webcomic market, hoist up higher in entertainment circles and get some gravitas in other areas of culture and business.

Win-win!

yeah...i have already deleted 30-50 pages and i don't know how many more i can delete without hurting the comic..i wanna follow the guidelines but people still need to be able to understand the plot ugh

I agreed on what I call 'fake out strech'. Just like you describe is scenes that only purpose is to make something seem longer (as in have four panels where the only thing that changes is the eyes looking one way, then the other...then repeat). I understand this kind of things work sometimes, but when is done every other panel it loses it's reason.

There are moment this is needed, but it shouldn't be each episode. I don't mind people adjusting to this new method cause we all need revenue and want it, but if is not to help your story/comics and is JUST to get more view I feel it'll hurt the comic.

I don't mind the vertical method...unless rambling is involve constantly like you mention (don't get me started on just text on white background for the lenght of two pages).

Non sexual and non violent =/= "clean". Sexual =/= impure. Get your puritanic medieval language out of here...

I would probably remove any sexual touching, nude or not, if I were you. If you want to get ad rev that is. You can always tell your audience that the missing pages/panels/etc can be found on another mirror site of your choice. As long as you don't break webtoon's general content guidelines you can always retry applying for ad rev once you have overlooked your comic to better align with ad program requirements.

People will do the obvious text-with-Clip Studio brush-whipout technique for a page or two because they are tired of drawing... but the text is useless and they could have edited down their stuff.

Smaller cartoons like Sarah's and Brutally Honest and HOW TO and Beehive and ZomCom and Pigeon and etc. are honestly popular due to their ability to be concise and humorous. Drama can also use editing. In Security, for example, plays humor and drama (which is it, truly?) in only 4-6 panels on average, and it works well. They can do story beats in short spaces by editing, so can everyone else, if they want to.

Those kinds of comics make it quicker and easier to get through, make it daily (if daily updates) and facilitate more page views and thus more ad viewing and thus more revenue. And I would assume Webtoons wants to become independent of Naver, and cut the financial umbilical so they exist after Naver gets bored with the experiment.

They have to put it there because at any point when ads are involved there is never a guarantee that there will be enough advertisors interested in advertising on webtoon or certain genres on it to cover the whole site.
Have you ever seen a "your ad could be here!" on a site? That indicates an empty spot. That is a case where there wasn't enough advertisor interest to cover all of the site's available ad spaces.

This is something that happens mostly on small sites though. With sites like webtoon that have more traffic it's usually opposite: advertisors compete for the spots available, and the highest bidding advertisors get the spots.

Ultimately, it is a disclaimer. It means "don't sue us, we hold no responsibility for what you make from ads and have no control over ads, how many might be available, where they appear, etc. etc." CYA--the technical term.

Also, Webtoons can reserve the right to approve or disapprove you for ad revenue... no matter what. If they don't like the color of shoes they could legally never approve you. Think about that.

I think they ultimately want to have a lot of ad revenue approved, because then THEY MAKE BUX as well. If they take 50% of nothing, they won't make anything.

I'm hoping they keep their standards consistent with Discover comics as they do with their Featured content. Cause theres a lot of featured stuff that arent exactly PG ad friendly but have ads on them already.

Reading the Google ad-guidlines it appears you have to be as pure as the freshly fallen snow...but I hope it's just a vague rule and won't be enforced that strictly.
I'm biting my nails too if I will be approved or not, and my comic doesn't even feature sex-scenes, frontal nudity, drug abuse or violence. However, I do have a character smoke once in a while (oh no!!!), some adult jokes (no vulgar words, but you know what they're saying ) and cartoon violence sometimes.
I consider it still a family friendly strip and safe to view. But according to the guidelines, a cigarette might already be a dealbreaker...
I hope too it's just overreacting and they will judge nudity and such according to context and not flat-out ban it
