Advice on making fancomics/fanfiction? And derive fanfics into original comics you usually make for yourself?

Hi there,

1. How can I make fanfiction? and fancomics?

It’s hard for me to start making fanfiction and fancomics because it’s hard to get into to the head of each character and make a good situation he/she/they can really get into, and I don’t want to make my fanfiction/fancomics too bland from my lack of knowledge of their characterization, especially if they status of a mysterious character is unknown and has a real goal they want to accomplish. I want to know what to do from there.

And don’t worry, I won’t share so much of my fancomics or fanfiction with too many other people. I also want to make my own fanfic that I would rarely share with others, because I don’t want to create too much problems relating to the creators ownership, copyright, and their licensing. These fanfics are for myself.

1. So how can I make my fanfic and create it into something more original over time?

Basically, I know a friend who does Harry Potter fan fiction, even though I don’t read Harry Potter because it’s books have many pages, not because I hate it (two classmates I know enjoy Harry Potter actually, I must at least try to get involved reading this series). And my cousins love making their own fanmade characters from anime series, video games, tv shows, or books in particular.

1. Do you have any advice to get started making some fanfiction based stuff?

2. How can I think of plots that fit within the story that will fit in?

3. How can I write for myself and enjoy myself when I create my own fanfiction?

4. How do I make crossover fanfiction/fancomics?

5. How do I catch up reading books (standalone and series) and watching tv shows and enjoying them both?

6. and what do I need to check on, and watch out for/avoid when watching tv and analyzing the characters in the shows?

Hopefully this would help me (and from others) with making fanfic stories /comics and stuff…

If you want to turn a fanfic into an original piece of content, you need to rewrite it in order to introduce the characters, because fanfic normally takes it for granted that you care, because if it's a fanfic you automatically care about the characters.

Fanfiction is a way to explore characters and/or worlds that you enjoy, by creating content for them that doesn't already exist. This is why you'll see stuff like fanfics that flesh out scenes that weren't explored in the original, or inserting their original characters into it, or even the super indulgent shipping fics. It's taking a story that you enjoy and going "What if...?"

There's no special trick to it, no "right" or "wrong" way, it's just a fun way to engage with media you enjoy. If you're not even sharing it, who the heck cares? Try some weird stuff, go nuts.

Amy covered it pretty well in that fanfiction is just "playing dolls" with series that you enjoy and exploring scenes, concepts, AUs, ships and just about anything else you can think up

A big tho is there is no right or wrong way to do it and the point is to have fun. My earliest written fanfics were all Sonic related and never saw the light of day save for like one or two chapters years ago but everything else is on scraps of paper and stuffed into old notebooks that i still have

It also helps not to force yourself into a piece of media that you don't enjoy or try to lower your expectation or anticipation to keep yourself from not enjoying it. It's definitely a "your mileage may vary" situation but I'm super bad at getting into books, movies, comics, tv shows and so on for a lot of honestly really random reasons. Sometimes i worry that I'll like it too much and fixate on that new thing as opposed to whatever thing I'm currently enjoying, Sometimes somethings just not my cup of tea even if it's super popular or it's a super hated piece of content but i think it's neat.

Above all i think the easiest things to do would be

• go at your own pace. there's no deadline looming over you just have fun
• dont force yourself to try to enjoy something if you don't like it. most fanworks are a labor of love so doing it through gritted teeth sucks for you and whatever your trying to make yourself create
• fun above all else. quality doesn't matter and opinion of others shouldnt be your driving force just get silly with it

i loved and still love making fanart and the rare once in a blue moon fanfic/fancomic about series i enjoy but my goal always is to do it for myself and to have fun with it coz if it's not fun i'm just not gonna want to push through even if i try to force myself. some folks call that lazy but the best formula is what works for you individually
