Well, I did say "screw this!" and give up on Naruto Shippuuden in the middle of a fight that had been going on for several episodes due to the way the same thing kept happening and failing, and the characters had to stop every three seconds and monologue in a dramatic fashion.
Now, as a shounen fan, I'm used to this. I even like it sometimes! It can be played for laughs, it can be super-dramatic, and when you're in the moment, you're just cheering for your favourite character(s) to have their crowning moment of badass, you know? One Piece does this really well, a lot of the time (not always) - the protagonist is bleeding on the ground, about to give up, and the antagonist goes on their big bad monologue - and then the protag gets up off the ground, delivers a cool one-liner and the let's-kick-some-ass music starts playing and hoooleee sheeeet I'm punching the air and cheering.
But when one fight drags out over multiple episodes without anything new happening, any plot-information being revealed, and no parallell storylines being explored as well - i.e: occasionally cutting away from the fight to see what everybody else is up to? Then I just roll my eyes.
Now, for shoujo.... I mainly experience these though manga, not anime, but I imagine they exist there too.
1.) "But you're a GIRL!" I.e: the male lead explains to the female lead that she a.) can't do a thing because as a girl she shouldn't ("girls shouldn't fight", "girls should be better behaved", "girls should be more feminine", etc.), or b.) having done a thing, she should have cared more about the way it and she looked (often evidenced in the "Oh your face is going to scar!" answered with "It's okay, I'm not a girl ((implying girls need to avoid facial scars because their entire worth is based on their looks))"). Also, having your hair cut accidentally is a traumatic experience from which you will clearly never recover.
2.) Childhood conflict defining their entire life. I'm not talking about bullying, which is a psychologically scarring experience and does influence the way you are as an adult. I mean the absolutely WEIRD plotlines where Character A forms a lifelong and lasting hatred of Character B - which Character B is entirely ignorant of - because, say, once when they were kids, Character B won a competition that Character A was also in. And this lifelong hatred manifests in hateful bullying of Character B in their teenage or adult life (remember, Character B has no idea what's going on) because of this one, single minor event in their childhood.
3.) I bully you because I love you, you should take it as a compliment. Most often commited by male characters towards female characters, but it happens the other way around too - bullying behaviour, possessively restricting people, sexual harrassment that toes the line of assault or rape, stalking, etc., etc. - all framed as romantic actions. Girls should be flattered that this guy is trying to stick his hand down their pants - he's doing it because he loves them!
Except that that's an extremely threatening and creepy thing to be doing.
4.) Shitty female love-rivals. And I'm not talking about established love-triangles - which I also have issues with, but that's an entirely different discussion. I'm talking about two people having established some sort of relationship, which they're still in the early beginnings of - it's usually male/female - and all of a sudden, out of left field, a brand new girl shows up! She's hot(ter than the heroine), she's confident, she likes the hero, and the moment she's alone with the heroine, she basically goes "I hate your face and I hope you die, I'm going to make your life miserable because how DARE you believe that you're good enough to deserve the attention of this man we're both attracted to."
Which is terrible enough in and of itself, but lately, I've seen this particular clichĂŠ played super-violently. Like, violent physical attacks against the heroine that are fully intended to end in her death or serious disfigurement. Pushing her down a long set of stairs, locking her in a room where no one will find her and leaving her there, stabbing her (with knives or scissors or whatever), shoving her in bodies of water not knowing if she can swim, throwing boiling water in her face, etc., etc.
... shoujo, you're weird.
