Anti-Heroes in your story? Post your story here if so [READ DESC FIRST]

Let us first define an anti-hero. It is NOT a villain protagonist where the main character(s) or any character we journey through is a full-on hardened criminal or down right evil.

A few examples of villain protagonists I can come up with on the top of my head are Michael Corleone (from the Godfather franchise), Tony Soprano (from The Sopranos), or Walter White (from Breaking Bad). These are not anti-heroes. They are full-on villains who we journey through as protagonists, committing crimes and out right evil for their own abition whether it is good or bad. Walter White might be more of an anti-villain than an anti-hero. But are villains at the end of the day.

Anti-Heroes are ultimate heroes at the end of the day, but lack conventional heroic attributes that make us see them as overwhelmingly flawed individuals.

Examples: Vegeta (from the Dragon Ball franchise). Started out a villian, but evolved into an anti-hero through fighting the same enemies as the heroes. There are times where he was a hero, but mainly he fights his enemies out of his Saiyan pride and his desire to become the strongest. He does however get stronger nowadays to make sure he can fight off Frieza from invading earth, though. Another heroic attribute, sure. But he is arrogant, stubborn, and has an ego. So much so that his latest form is... well Ultra Ego. His arrogance and stubborness is way more exposed in that form.

Another Example is The Punisher from Marvel Comics and Red Hood from DC Comics. Both are heroic in many ways who fight off villains for the greater good, but are ultimately brutal, ruthless, merciless, and flat out psychotic at times when it comes to their methods of killing said villains. Sure, they do fight evil people for the greater good. But their methods can make us question their heroism at many points and time.

So yeah, that's what anti-heroes are. They do heroic things because of their own self-interests, or because it's right despite being vastly brutal.

My main character is an anti hero but more like Luffy in a way, where he is selfish for the most part seeking pleasure in his adventures above all else

I am a fan of anti-hero characters. My own protagonist is a vigilante who doesn't necessarily aspire to be good, but hatred for criminals, fear of herself and whatever remaining compassion she has for the innocent has pushed her to the other side. She doesn't always go about the "right" way of doing things, and to be honest it's not always an option. She's already saved another character in the story (right after dishing him crippling insults) and it will likely happen again.

She is in fact "chaotic good", saying she's good is still weird to me

My MC, elven enforcer Arq, is an antihero, but he's got a long road in front of him. He is vicious and violent in his work for crime boss Jet. He's bitter and angry about his people's entrapment in the prisoner of war slum of Elftown. But a mission of vengeance awakens in him long submerged feelings of purpose and a desire for justice.

My main protagonist is a demon who controls the world through scary stories. He is not outright evil but his stories have consequences that he is not fully aware of.

Plot: Scary Terry is an outcast amongst the demons of Hell because he doesn’t take enough souls. This all changes when he finds the book of Dark Contents. Each story in this book offers a different soul…and yours…could be NEXT! Published twice a month.

I haven't gotten far in my story yet, but my MC, Brianna, is a grey character.

In my story, Absolutely Positively Stranded--which I'd like to clarify now is in a comedic arc right now-- is about a bunch of teenagers (with a handful of adults) being stranded on an island. Brianna, is willing to do anything to take care of the people she considers her own, even at the cost of her mental health and wearing stereoptypes like armor.
We're slowly seeing signs that Brianna isn't what most would call a great person. She's can be callous, apathetic, and even a down right bitch at times, but she tries to do good by the people she loves. So far in my novel when haven't gotten to the worst of her, but then again she's only been stranded on an island for a few days or so.

I guess you could describe one of the main characters from my story, Lolly, as a antihero. She is a Grim Reaper, but only in a self-serving way, as she does not want to go back to Hell. Also, I haven't gotten there in the story yet, but her backstory involves her doing a lot of morally dubious things, which is why she went to hell when she died in the first place (prior to being hired by death).

I suppose Kasus would qualify as an anti-hero.

He's a skilled fighter and devoted to his cause, but he also has some antisocial tendencies and just a really bad attitude. His other teammates have difficulties getting along with him.
