A meetup event sounds like a great idea. You guys should coordinate another one around APE 2015. I know a bunch of artists from the site will be in town and would love to get together.
There's a group called BAAU (Bay Area Artists Unite) that I'm... kinda involved in (at least when they meet up at the cafe that's in the same block as where I live)
They usually meet several times a year and have events together.
