My fav moment in gaming history is from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
While exploring Hyrule in his adulthood, Link rediscovers Lon Lon Ranch and quickly realizes he's been set up by Ingo, who has taken over the ranch, to lose racing bets by having Link race on a lackluster horse.
While practicing his riding skills, Link spots a familiar horse in the corner of the corral, one he played a beautiful song to as a child, and gets the idea to dismount the horse he's been lent in order to approach this other mare. She has a wild temperment and is aggressively hesitant to let him approach at first, so he brings out his ocarina and plays her the song again. Instantly soothed, she allows him to ride, and Link once again makes a bet with Ingo in a horse race. This time, he wins.
Infuriated, Ingo asks Link to race again, this time insisting that if he wins, he can not only keep his money, but also, the horse. Sure enough, despite Ingo's cheating, Link wins yet again. So, a very crestfallen Ingo confesses that he'd been trying to tame this horse, named Epona, to present to Ganondorf, who has taken over Hyrule and plunged it into chaos and darkness. Now desperate to maintain his grasp on the ranch, Ingo makes Link one last proposition: he can keep the horse, but only under the condition that he never leaves the farm.
Link's having none of that. He's got a world to save. And so, he rears up on his new steed, leaps the fence with her, and with that, he and Epona go down in Hyrule history.
