Any of you have a dedicated instagram account for your comic? Is it worth it?

Recently I've been chatting with people who've asked me about posting comic's to instagram (mainly because of cropping. Cropping is a b*tch.) And I've been like cool! I have other people who also use instagram as a hosting site.

When I first started posting there, it was mainly so my instagram followers who were interested in the comic but didn't really use webtoon could read it. I wasn't really gaining new people, and I kinda thought it wasn't that worth it. But again, I did it for ppl who wanted to support my work.

BUT I have recently worked out how to use reels to get followers on that account instead of linking them to instagram. A really good point brought up by @/serakatto on twitter was that with using reels to promote your comic, an advantage was that they don't need to leave the app to read. You just need to let them know they just need to follow your account.

So, I started re-uploading my tiktoks onto reels, adding some text at the end that was like "Read the comic on this account!" and DAMN. I thought it wouldn't work, but I was able to get a bunch of new readers from doing this. The site's become it's own hosting platform for my comic that I'm able to promote (and reuse tiktoks for!)

So now, instagram has become one of my top 3 sites for my comic for that reason. (like after webtoon and tapas) I'd say it's pretty worth it for me now, but I would have continued posting there anyways even if this wasn't the case.

Do y'all post on instagram/ considering doing so? (Link your Instagram's below as well so I can see how other people go about hosting there )

oh I've heard about doing that, but yeah it looks like that worked out pretty good for you! For me personally it's like, I'm scroll format, so I wouldn't be sure how to upload things. Like I could do a reel that just scrolls down the page? But like one of the reasons I haven't done it in the time I've been on Instagram is because there aren't really monetization options on there, although it's not like there's much in terms of monetization on the aggregate sites either. Do you find that your readers end up going to Webtoon or Tapas to read the rest or do they just stay on Instagram?

Yeah, I'm guessing it's different with scroll format, but there's probably ways to make it work!

Some people have gone from my instagram to webtoon because it's easier to read the comic on there (and I leave a link to webtoon in my bio) I don't tend to promote tapas there since I post the same format on Instagram anyways.

I have one. I use for art as well and twitter for updates on my comics, and art, and website stuff.

nah, I just use my art account 'cause I'm still not sure what kinda content I can put that's webcomic specific. maybe it's a good idea tho??? i dunno:sweat_02:

I have an Insta account because everyone told me it's vital for growing an audience... but I came to the party too late because changes to the Insta algorithm had basically made it completely useless when I joined. The algorithm is awful for anyone who doesn't basically live on instagram. I post occasionally, but I don't have much passion for it. It's an annoying platform, honestly.

Saving this thread. I'm also planning something MASSIVE for my Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter so this'll help. Luckily for me, I already have all my chapters chopped up for advertising purposes.

I think the thing holding me back is hashtag game tho. How did you pick out the hashtags? And what's your schedule like?

Btw I really need to do reels like that again. I got so many views on TikTok and YouTube earlier this year because of them but I dunno why I can't be assed to do it.

For me, it doesn't help my novel gain any traction what soever to post promo on my writer's Instagram. But it is hella fun! I just needed a place to dump some quotes, art and rants about my characters honestly haha.

I posted my comic on both Instagram and Tapas when I started the comic. It started gaining followers much faster there than here, and I am looking at 1500+ followers on Instagram to 49 here, and I get a lot more interaction there, so I would say that it is worth it.

Granted, I started posting to Webtoons and Reddit much later, and they are also both out-pacing Tapas. I feel that things are just slower here. I do like Tapas more for the forum here, where other creators hang out and chat.

I used to get 400 followers and 40 likes long time ago (that wasn't for my comic) and then my engagement suddenly dropped to 10 likes maybe so I left instagram. 1​, wouldn't recommend

I usually post my WIP in IG story. Sometimes I post some of my favourite panels from the latest EP and little art props that I would love to share to my followers and fans.
