I'm sorry but why? Why should I or anyone else put in more effort on something that may or may not even give results when there is something, in this case Webtoons, that does give you results at far less costs? Webtoons, and I'd say other sites too but Webtoons is clearly following a "Do Less, Gain More" mentality.
Arguably unintentionally too.
People end up having to do far less on Webtoons but still gaining a lot more and even if the divide is still there, the huge population makes it feel more open to all creators regardless of content. Tapastic lacks that and for what its worth, I can't blame Tapastic on that. I can't say Tapsatic is doing anything wrong or anything different that Webtoons is doing.
But if I'm going to chose one, I'm going to chose the option that takes less effort and gives more results. Some might call it laziness but hey, if laziness gives me the results I need,I will gladly take the easy route. Maybe one day Webtoons too will struggle under this same issue.
If you want an audience, subs and views, you go to Webtoons. Which is frankly what most creators want. I can tell you I didn't join Tapastic for the forum.
What's funny is that Webtoons, for one reason or another, does the one thing any creator wants, gets them attention. It gets them readers, views, subs, comments, ratings, favorites, sometimes even Patreon Support. Meanwhile they struggle with what appears to be basic things that any hosting site would have like notifications, specific size limits, .JPEG only, etc. I still can't imagine why there isn't a proper notification system on Webtoons.
Meanwhile, Tapas has all the basic needs, had tipping, ad revenue, a bunch of good stuff that would be a godsend to anyone but, again, for one reason or another, makes it more difficult to gain readership which makes all these great points useless.
At first I was rather concerned with Webtoons format, though things like .JPEG never bothered me personally. I didn't understand why we didn't have a proper notification system and for the love of pineapple, let me switch my posts around. What if I want to post something between two chapters? I feel the only site that has done this properly is freaking Smackjeeves.
However, the idea of actually getting support, far greater support than I've ever had before, made these, honestly pretty notable issues, seem less troublesome. I was willing to make these sacrifices because in the end, I ended up getting results.
that's what I want, that's what a lot of creators want and unfortunately as this topic and many other topics have noted, results is something many people, even the successful ones, struggle with.
