Twitter has been dying a slow agonizing death...I barely go there on the weekdays now- only on weekends coz a lot of people who are affiliated/fans of the sports team I'm a fan of are there.

It's so bad now, I've dusted off my Tumblr account and now trying to resuscitate that.

Social media went to shit the minute corporations & capital venture stockholders put their hands in the cookie jar...

I've heard of Bluesky but other than knowing it's similar to Twitter, I don't know anything else. :skull:When it comes to social media I'm so out of the loop, I guess mostly because I've never enjoyed using it :sob:

1 month later

Welp, Bluesky is now open to the public- anyone can sign up...

There are no DMs
There are NO algorithms

And some other stuff but I forgot...

So I was honestly waiting for a public release before increasing my activity mainly coz only so many of my folks were able to get in via invites [and i genuinely forgot to share the ones i had :sweat_01: ]

There's no denying that it is lacking some of those core features that we're used to on most social media but if anything it kinda gives Tumblr vibes [with the lack of/user driven algorithm] in a Twitter skin.

Feeds are definitely the best way to navigate and it seems like after some user feedback they've expanded on the content filter settings [somewhere under moderation or preferences but it's there] so now it's easier to block things like hate speech and nsfw content if you dont wanna see it. Not to mention there's also an option to turn of reposts/retweets and replies if you don't want to see those in your primary following feed either [also under moderation/settings]

As for Feeds I'd say that @wanderlingworld.bsky.social has some of the better art based tags/feeds tho there are others if you seek them out [just go with what you prefer]. I also just added the OnlyPosts feed to my pinned list which serves the same function as turning off replies and reposts on your home feed but it's its own thing [and my preference since I dont mind some reposts and can easily just block or mute the folks I dont wanna see]. Another I forgot to mention was the Media tab/feed by @jcsalterego.bsky.social. Not 100% sure if its already been implemented proper by the site or if it's just a feed only thing but it does put it on your profile so folks can see media only posts similar to the old twit layout,

Circling back to the user driven algo bit it has been highly recommended that folks be all the more vigilant about just blocking and moving on or reporting when it comes to inflammatory pots, bait and other troll behavior now that Bsky is open to the public since the only thing putting them on other peoples home feeds is engagement or other interactions [feeds may be one deterrent but literally the best thing is just avoiding that knee jerk reaction to dunk on some idiots bad faith take or whatever else]

Its still definitely getting it's legs now that everyone is mass migrating but once folks start finding their flocks again I think it can work well as a nice secondary [or primary depending on how activity pans out] place to post [tho they will still have to sort other functions :sip: ]

but like overall it's not looking so bad 🤷

Yup, joined it yesterday.
Seems like a basic version of twitter, which is nice, especially since twitter went to shit.

I´m on there now, reminds me a lot of Twitter/X

I've been there a while now. Neil Gaiman holds court there. Chuck Tingle is there being wholesome. It's very gay, trans, and furry.

Most users are quite agressive about "block don't engage" as a way to deal with the Blue Checks sliming their way over from Twitter. If you're going there to spread the gospel of Ben Shapiro you will be isolated like the plague bearer you are.

I approve.

I first hear about BlueSky when Twitter was just about to be bought by Elon Musk, a lot of people were crazy back then to just get a code.
From time to time there was a rise whenever a new issue with Twitter happened, then when Meta announced that they'll be incorporating an AI fed with what we post both on Facebook and Instagram, it got relevant again.
I made my account today since I've seen a few friends of mine sharing their profiles so... even if I'm not thrilled nor find it very appealing, its something.

I have but I forgot my password so I haven't logged in for a while.

So apparently, since they went public on Wednesday they got in an influx of over a million new users...

Me, I'm just enjoying having a lot more artists & comic creators on the site.

That was at the same day half my feeds died. I still got a few running but It's been hard to keep up unless someone reposts someone.

I'm confused about the hashtags--do you use them like you would on Twitter? Or are there no hashtags, but there's a hashtag icon for your feed? (I just joined out of curiosity but my oldish a** doesn't know up from down when it comes to navigating the socials.)

From what I understand hashtags don't work (yet) as they do on other socials, like twitter. But those feeds can be build to collect posts based on hashtags. Some of the Art feeds filter based on #Art for example

Ahhh okay. So if you use a hashtag, you're kind of saving/bookmarking the post for future users to discover once the app becomes more developed?

I'm pretty sure it's based on keywords fed into the feed, but it's not all that discerning.

You often see something like, "... the doctor who treated my dad..." in the Doctor Who feed, or, "Data on the number of shootings in 2023..." in the Star Trek feed.
