I was wondering... Is anybody here living the dream or about to live the dream of being a comic artist? Me: no. I don't think I'll get there but I like the slave labor so it's alright. Idk, maybe one day in my dream. Anyway, share your thoughts and opinions. Have a good day, maties!

Nope, not even close but it's not my dream. I want to be an animator, drawing comics is just something I'm doing for practice/fun.

Technically my dream is to be filthy rich so I can do whatever I want all day long with no financial worries... but in reality I'm a broke student trying to find enough change between the couch pillows to buy some cheap ramen.

In all seriousness, my dream is to be successful in the sense that I love what I do. I don't need gratification from someone else as long as I can find it from myself. Would it be nice to make money from my reviews? Hell yes. Am I okay with it just being a hobby? Yep (although a little extra change wouldn't hurt -saves my fingers from scraping the gross unknowns of the inside of the couch).

So basically, I don't think a specific career is/was ever my end goal. I just set my eyes on something, reach it, and then keep going. It is a lot more satisfying reaching for small goals and working your way up than going straight for the top bar from the get-go.

Well, my "dream" is not comics, but game design... but I supposed working with comics would be a decent "plan B" too. Not there yet for either of them, still just a student who needs a lot more skills, but working my way towards my goal!

Web comics is defiantly not my dream, it was honestly my shitty fall back plan.

I just wanted to write novels, but no one I knew would read them without pictures because they knew that I could draw. So how dare I just write when I was able to draw too.

Yeah, my dream was to become an obscure, barely average webcomic artist that has trouble sticking to any single project.

Haha... such a simple, yet complicated question. Yes and no.

I was fortunate to have some success in the indie game industry, plus I had a full-time studio job, and the whole time I was very frugal with my money and saving up a "safety net" with the intention of pursuing comics full-time. Right now I'm supporting myself off of my savings and trying to build up an audience for my comics and art.

So, yes because I'm a self-employed artist, and no, because I'm still having to support myself with my savings. But I'm getting there. :] I didn't expect to be a huge success this early in the game.

I am definitely not "living the dream" yet... since I still need a day job and can't support myself just on my freelance work alone. But I am being paid to write and illustrate comics, so I feel like I'm on the right path.

The property that I'm writing/illustrating right now is not a huge one, but my mentor started out her career doing franchise comics as well and worked her way up to doing bigger and more interesting properties. So I'm hoping to follow in her footsteps. I think I'm in a good place for someone my age? Who know though sigh

I'm not living the dream in the sense that I make comics for a living, but I'm working in an industry I love and want to have a career in (video games) so I think I'm doing pretty well for myself. I certainly wouldn't object to making a living from my comics, but I also really love video games and working on them.

Good gosh, I'm far away from achieving that dream. But I'm slowly making my way there. I'm starting to promote my comic at conventions (2 conventions so far), and I plan on going to more as well as hopefully start printing my comic next year.
