Not even streaming without a mic or camera? Thats what I do, because I have similar issues with cameras. >< I know what you mean about time being precious... I set caricatures as a reward tier for early adopters of my Patreon and I'm regretting it a little, haha. I'm about to restructure my Patre…

I drank beer outdoors in a light sweater today. B]

Congrats on 5! That shit is hard.

Haha, I like #1. I can be bitchy and judgmental about popular comics I don't like. Then when people started criticizing my stuff, I was like "oh, I guess I'm probably that person to someone else". Now I have a "you do you" attitude about it and try to learn from what they're doing right, because obv…

Yeah, I like #3. I almost added a little footnote to the section on criticism about that. If you're getting more bad than good out of something, then you probably need to rethink what you're doing. Also love #1. smile Thanks for sharing!

Grats on the new webcomic! I'm gonna start a new one this year too. It's scary and exciting. Also love that you put in some personal/spiritual lessons! Definitely, let's kick ass in 2016 smiley

Omg badass! Good job on having comics for the next four months. I try to build a buffer, but never get more than one comic queued, and actually post late more than I should >_> Definitely start a new project! I would!

English is my first language, but when I was trying to keep up with my Japanese, getting pen pals was helpful! Ideally, find someone who is trying to learn your language too, so you can both correct each other and improve. smile Also, props to all of you for learning this insane language.

I typically don't share my comics on the Forums, but I felt like sharing this one and hopefully inspiring some other artists out there! 2015 was a big year for me. I finally bit the bullet and left my full-time job to focus more time on my comics. I've learned a lot in the process and I thought I'd …

I try to post on Mondays around 7am PST. I have no idea when the most optimal time is, but my logic behind it was "Monday mornings suck, here's a comic to make it a little better!"

Hahaha... nice to see some NSFW humor on here! My series is Bastard Comics. Two funny series that come instantly to mind are It's the Tie! and The Sea Rabbit.

I say definitely BASE the characters on your friends, but don't make your friends your characters. When there's IRL drama between your friends, it starts to feel wrong writing them into a comic.

Yeah... Tapastic has kinda spoiled me. Everyone here is so positive and supportive. I started posting stuff to Reddit and am now remembering how brutal people on the internet can be, lol.

Depends... I have learned to start with a super low inventory, like 5 items, and adjust how much I produce after that based on how many sold. There's also a "made to order" option when you're listing, plus a setting where you say "Shipped within X days of ordering". So you can manage your customer…

I haven't been selling merch for long, but the DIY/Etsy approach seems like the best approach when you are starting out. Stickers, for example: a lot of businesses that print stickers FOR you require you to order a minimum of X stickers. Sometimes that minimum is 1000. Someone like me can't expect t…

Not sure if this counts as social media, but I had recent success with Reddit. r/comics and r/webcomics have no rules against posting your own comics (as long as you're not spammy!) and I got a couple of new Tumblr followers out of it. Worth the effort if you're still a noob like me. smile

If you're willing to pay, The Gnomon Workshop has great content from professionals in the entertainment industry. Otherwise, there are some great, free tutorials out there posted by artists. This may sound strange, but Pinterest is a great place to look all of that stuff up. Character Desigh's acc…

I'm hearing so much about those two hashtags. I'm going to try to participate soon! I missed the last one because I forgot what day it was :]

Also, does anyone see a use for DeviantArt anymore?

I am also avoiding Facebook. I feel like I may be missing out on the opportunity to reach a lot of people, but I already hate how much time I spend on there on my personal account. And I hear they have some weird algorithms that prevent your page's posts from showing up on fans' feeds. expressionless I have bee…

Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer. smile Another question... are any of you supporting artists with multiple projects? I have one weekly web comic, and it has a pretty broad sense of humor, intended to be accessible to most people. I would like to do some other series, still humor, but a…

Yeah, I definitely agree with the livestream thing. I never have time to watch others' streams, but I DO see the merit of streaming yourself working. I'm so much more focused and diligent when I know other people are watching.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I assumed people liked per month better so that they can better control their spending. But I feel like you also run the risk of not getting enough done in a month, and people feeling like they didn't get their money's worth. I guess the same rule applies to everyth…

I'm looking very seriously into starting a Patreon account, and I'm in the research phase right now. I'm seeing a lot of advice from people running Patreons, but none from the backers themselves! Here are a few questions, and feel free to give advice that wasn't mentioned here. Do you prefer pay…

Starting late? Panicking? Sounds eerily familiar.

I just signed up! http://nanowrimo.org/participants/el-fury I'm torn between trying to get 50k words of a script, or setting a comparable goal of X number of pages... What are everyone's goals?

At my old job I would get headaches (usually in the same spot behind my right eye) and got checked out at an eye doctor. It turned out I needed reading glasses, and I ordered lenses with AR coating (similar to what computer glasses have, but without the yellow tint). I don't get the headaches anymor…

Knowing peak traffic times on certain social media sites helps too! I've been using this to track peak traffic times for Tumblr. I think it's helped, though I have no data to back it up. Might be time to start using bit.ly! And Instagram was fairly easy to figure out. People (myself included) tend…

Yes, and it's awesome! Too bad it doesn't have any Tapastic recipes yet.
