Hello folks!
What do you think about interludes in a novel that (only) contains art?
Background: I did character sheets of my two main OCs and am thinking about posting them (with descriptions) as part/ a chapter of my novel. But I'm not sure if that's a good way. Would it be better to create an own "story" with related art?
Would be great if you would share your thoughts on this with me.
Thank you! :hugging:
Best wishes,
Hel :sunny:

I just put the art in the novels. Some readers like art once in a while in a novel.

I've posted bonus art in novels before, and readers liked it. Usually, I posted it as a bonus chapter so they still had the regularly scheduled updates.

I put art at the start of almost every chapter. I do it because I like drawing. Readers seem to like it, at least I've never had anyone complain.

I think that´s a brilliant idea and I wish all novels would have art in them

Thank you all a lot for your feedback!
So it seems it's a good thing? Happy to hear that.
I think I will give it a try when I've finished chapter 6.

I'm a big fan of additive lore type illustrations. Like in Tolkien's books, he has his maps drawn or a simple pen drawing of what a mountain scene looks like. But it is made with the purpose of looking like an ancient hand drawing from a linguistics professor who traveled around Middle Earth uncovering its history. lol

Honestly, if it's part of your art and expression of the story you're writing, I would say go for it if you really feel it adds to the experience of your novel.

Yes, why not?

I included one or even two illustrations in my novel for each of its chapters.

I like art in novels. I don't have a very good imagination

Funny enough, I just added art for the first 10 chapters of mine. So I say yeah lol.

That's very helpful, thank you all!
Since I don't have illustrations, just character sheets, I'm not that sure how to include them best.
But I think I will put them into an own "chapter". If I ever have illustrations, they could go with the story texts, from what I read here (your suggestions/ experiences).
Hope I will get to that point sometime.
Thank you again!

As a reader I would love the characters being introduced at the beginning.
I remember the books that I read as a kid with just the main character on fhe front
page with a simple background. My whole imagination of the character was built
on that picture

In hindsight, that would have been a good thing!
I fear, if I put the character sheets at the beginning now (if that's even possible ), noone will see/ find them. I have very few readers, maybe a new one in three or four months, so only those would see it.
I know I can send a message to the subscribers, but it feels like they're not read.
But maybe I missed something.

Ah, I definitely can relate! Pictures of the protagonist definitely helped and made the characters more comprehensible.
At least the cover of my story already shows both main characters.
