Artist attitude - pet peeves?

I think it depends on the content they make. If you make something like Rick and Morty, you could get away with it because that's the audience you're creating for. It's weird when you're doing more general PG13 things though and start referring to your audience as stuff like that.

From what I saw, the people who do that draw pretty and thoughtful things, which is why I follow them.
BUT as said, no matter what other people think and try to justify it, it rubs me the wrong way.

I think one of my biggest peeves are young 'anime' artists. Don't get me wrong, I Love anime, manga, and all their stylings; but you're never going to be able to draw in that style correctly if you don't learn how things actually look first. I mean, how do you think the first artists developed their styles?

Plus there are lots of other great things you miss out on when you decide you're only going to draw anime. I mean, would you really want to cut out influences like the timeless Calvin and Hobbes, thrilling Batman, classic Disney, or beautiful Ernest and Celestine (to name a few) just to become another indistinguishable mangaka? It's just.... Depressing.

I kind of agree with what you're saying, it's not unreasonable to feel bad about putting a lot of effort into something, and just seeing other people overtake you. I'm less okay with it when it becomes every time. When you can almost predict when someone is going to start insulting a work, because you saw it go up the rankings above theirs.

"Popular" artists/creators who act stuck up or think they know shit when actually they don't know shit about shit! I saw a good bit of this on Twitter to my displeasure and I'm glad I don't use it anymore.

It is one thing when a low level creator is being snotty or acts like they have it all figured out, but seeing someone who has made it big or is relatively successful behave like that? Wwwhhhyyyyyyy.....

For me, it's creators that get popular and then get so full of themselves. Basically, they think they're the best thing around and start shunning others less popular than them.

That annoys me the most. I've seen some writers blow up in popularity and then drop all their "friends" with less reads.

I've also seen writers form cliques stating they are the best group of writers in that fandom or genre. I've seen it happen on two websites now. I hope the same thing doesn't happen on Tapas.

I once drew a sketch of a black person and got called racist for drawing "stereotypical black features". Next time I drew a black girl with more "european" features and got also called racist for "white washing" black facial features. I never took to myself but it was hilarious that no matter how you draw a black person you're always a racists. There's never pleasing sjw's so it's better to not even try.

Hahahaha....I'm currently re-reading the manga about making manga called Bakuman and I'm reminded of what Eiji says when he wins the Tezuka award. "All that hard work while everyone else was playing video games really paid off!" And the funny thing is, he's being sincere when he says that given that its shown a few chapters later that he grew up poor living in the boonies his whole life with manga being his only entertainment.
