Artists with BIG displays! Do you like using them?

Me and my iPad have got a good thang going on right now. Recently I bought this thing to rig it into and it’s been working great.

But sometimes I long for a bigger screen. The siren call of a 20in screen a pc sometimes reaches me. For instance, the only real problem I’ve had so far is that Clip Studio Paint on the iPad has trouble handling big 3D models, and I get sorta worried about moving files back and forth in the cloud.

I was thinking maybe one day I could get a budget one from the cintiq alternatives (Like this one !) just to see how I like it. But for some of you who have big 20+ in screens how do like it?

Do you think the extra space helps you? Does a bigger screen make your arms give out faster? Do you ever miss/ go back to smaller screens or monitor-less tablets? Let me know below!

I've had a big Cintiq before - an old 21" square thing, which would be too low-resolution for practical work now. But I miss that giant screen SO much... It's just lovely to be able to work zoomed out, yet still be able to see everything on the page in detail.

Apparently it's much better ergonomically as well, as you tend to use your whole arm to draw, rather than your wrist. Since the arm has less tiny bones and tendon sheaths and all that fun, finicky stuff you find in the wrist, you decrease the risk of RSI.

I use an iPad now too, and I am totally unwilling to give up Procreate, so I'll be on a small screen for the foreseeable future. I'm really tempted to get one of those mounts you have, so my arm can rest on it while drawing, but shipping that to Australia costs a LOT, haha.

I've been using my cintiq for a while so I've gotten used to the weight and all the cables. But one thing I really want is to get a stand for it so I can change the angle. When it's at a low angle like that, I found that it makes my back and neck hurt even more, so I just think it's more comfortable and better for long term to have the screen facing me.

I think bigger screen is always better but there's just so many things to think about, less space, having to put my keyboard on my lap for hotkeys because my desk has no room.. Plus Mac doesn't have hdmi port, so I use my windows pc for that reason.

I do have a display tablet that I don't use often because it doesn't have express buttons which is kind of inconvenient for comic making. I have enough space for it on my desk (barely), but I'd rather use my old small wacom intuos. It at least has four express buttons and is more portable, which was super convenient for when I lived away from home for college. I'm just a bit lazy when it comes to my DT. Removing drivers for my intuos when I have to crank out pages just doesn't seem like a good idea right now. If I was just an illustrator (and the tablet had express buttons) I'd probably only use my DT.

I saw the tablet you're looking at and don't get it unless you have enough space for your keyboard to be next to it (and don't use a laptop like I do)! Get one with express buttons, please! It'll save you all types of frustration.

As for me myself, I've had my cintiq for years so I'm very used to it. I've gotten used to it over the years, and not that I can't go back to a smaller one, but I really wouldn't. The larger display means I can see more. In the end, it really depends on what you're used to. If you can, see if you can try out one in person. If not, make sure you can return or something. If you do decide to get a big one, make sure to have a stand with it. It's less stress on your wrist and back. Idk about current cintiqs now but the one I got came with a stand. If you're in the US, consider buying used or refurbished ones on Ebay.

As for the link, I've seen that one around but never really tried it so I can't say much about it.

I was the same that i fantasized big screen and thought my workflow will be much better. I don’t have big display but the current ipad i have is almost too big for me lol, and i draw using this 12.9 inch display while using split screen for watching youtube. I’m glad i didn’t purchase cintiq because of this, turned out big display isn’t for me and for my eyes. The only thing i can offer for you is to try drawing on the big screen first and decide if it’s for you.

I have a xpen 22e and I love how big the screen is, sometimes I think I want to upgrade to a bigger one like the biggest cintiq.
That´s also something a comic artist recommend to me before I got into digital drawing

I have a Cintiq 22" and a Wacom One 13.3".

The Cintiq is like drawing on a huge sheet of paper on an easel - I love it.

Oh yeah. I've got a 22inch Huion and I love it. Plus it's actually a computer too, and a fairly powerful one at that.

I have a Cintiq 24HD, going on nearly 8 years now? It's definitely one of my best investments. The damn thing's heavy as hell, so moving it is a pain. I love how drawing on it doesn't have the disconnect of a tablet. The only problem I've had as far as line quality goes, is a little wobble on diagonal lines in Photoshop, but zooming in a little more and moving faster usually takes care of that problem.
