Tapas is a wonderful place to find LGBTQ+ comics and novels, but there is so much focus on gay and bisexual characters and relationships, that other identities tend to get buried. They're extremely hard to find, which is unfortunate considering how many people are out there looking for characters to relate to who share their sexual/gender identity.

I would like to focus on asexuality today, because it's one of the most underrepresented sexualities in fiction, while there are tons of asexual people who want to read stories about people like them but don't know where to find them.

Please share your comics/novels with asexual characters, or any comics/novels you've read with asexual characters that you think people should know about! EDIT: Make sure the character(s) state or at least imply their aceness somewhere. Think representation. (This includes characters who are on the asexual spectrum who identify as graysexual, demisexual, etc. and asexual characters with any kind of romantic preference, including heteroromantic. Asexual is asexual, regardless of romantic attraction.)

TL;DR: share comics/novels with asexual characters pls thx

I've got one! Ace MC, and while his world has no word for it, he describes it as best he can in the book.

I love this thread but can't promote in it because my Ace character isn't set to appear for a while :sweat_smile:. I'll be sure to return when she does!

It's hard to pinpoint ace characters if a story doesn't focus on relationships/dates outside of platonic ones :sweat_smile:

Such is the case with mine. The protagonist Church is technically under the ace umbrella, but it doesn't really come up in the story since it's irrelevant to the plot.

This one is my favourite book with an ace main! <3

Well mostly due to the cast being 13 for most of the story it would hardly come up, but most of my kids fall under the ace umbrella by default,

I also have a novel with Carole one of my three mains being gray-ace.

One of the main characters love interests is asexual, though right now MC is in the realizing he's attracted but not confronted him about it yet phase.

Not openly admited as of now, and I plan to make the reveal more natural in a future arc than just flat-out say it or march with it (Like Disney did with Onward's cop), but I have two Characters that are Ace, Alfredo and Greta (The latter for the nature of Her species).

Enjoy your Stay, Have a nice Day!

NICE!! As an asexual creator this brings me a lot of joy to see :heart_03:
My comic doesn't focus at all on the sexual identities of the characters, but. I headcanon so many of these characters to be on the ace (or aro) spectrum it's not even funny

I don't know much about material here in tapas, or in other website, but if you like official material, try to read (if you haven't already) 'Shimanami Tasogare' (Our Dreams at Dusk). Its a great (and kind of short) manga that tries to depict different sexual identities from the point of view of a young school boy who was outed as gay and thinks that his life has ended for that. Its a great and respectful work and includes an asexual character, among others.

I also have an ace character who hasn't been formally introduced yet, haha. He has been name dropped and is formally appearing soon though, so may as well.

Although Richard (left) isn't an MC, I'm happy to see so many MC ace representations here from fellow creators. :grinning:

I'm going to share my book with a few important caveats:

  • The book itself is MM and both MCs are allo cis gay men;
  • The aro/ace character isn't either of the MCs, but an important side character; she's the sister of one of the MCs;
  • She's already dead when the story begins. The book is split between present and past, and she's a huge part of the past timeline;
  • She specifically states her aroness; her aceness is implied.

If, after all that, you'd like to come meet Emma, have a link. She's first seen in Episode 21, titled "We'd Like The Room" and doesn's specifically state her aroness until Episode 61, set to go live on April 20th.

I've got Glitch! Her ace-ness is never stated explicitly, since it's not plot-relevant at all, but it's canon in my head.

I really enjoy seeing all the ace recommendations! <3 However... I will admit I was hoping to see more explicit main character ace characters.

since Im ace, most of my MCs are :laughing:

In this story, even tho its not openly spoken, they are

and for my second story, the MC is openly ace and has to deal with most of everyone bs about it

In that case, I'll just name-drop her for now but...

I have a Wood Elf named Tera who is Ace/Aro. She hasn't appeared yet, and I don't plan to release her for a while jsut because of the timeline I"m currently on, but she IS a very lovely character. She is an elven druid whose main concern is with finding oneness with the natural world, and her journey is going to involve the stories of the wood elves and druids as a whole. She starts off as sassy and immature, but grows over the course of her stories. She's actually one of my favorite characters to write and I'm mad that I'm not at the point where I get to introduce her yet :sweat_smile:

She will be eventually though, but until then feel free to check out some of my other characters in The Aphuaian Tales:

My main character Vernon is actually Demisexual.
Thing is, it only becomes a talking point later when we really get into the sexuality of each character. There are plenty of ways you can tell at the start as he has a total of 0 reaction to Azreth's sexual coments until much later, and refuses to get engaged in any sexual conversation until he gets to REALLY know his mates.
So yeah, though he does fit, I'm not sure i should link here as it's not made obvious at the start. ^^
