I ducking love Ripley and Furiosa!
I haven't made an influence map. But I've got some definite influences from other comics/mediums for Voidchild. I'll take bits and pieces from here and there:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - This is how I want character interactions in my comic to feel to others. There's such a great contrast from grim tragedy to sillyness in this show.
Batman - Gotham City in itself is like a persona, an Alice in wonderland type of Place where the people (read mostly villains) take on just as colorful personas. I wanted Victoria, the city and main setting of my own comic Voidchild, to also have character along with this. Not in the same way that Gotham is portrayed, but as a city with personality and a bit of mythos to it.
Full Metal Alchemist - Because few shows have left me as satisfied as this one. The main thing I draw from FMA is how well they do melodrama. It seems an episode doesn't go by without someone saying or doing something dramatic. That coupled with a sense of uncertainty is what I want to FMA to influence Voidchild with.
Deadwood - I know this is a western. But it goes back to my Point about both character interaction and a location with character. Deadwood is sometimes melodramatic in the same sense that Shakespeare play is and the dialogue/monologues are incredible. Some of the best I've ever Heard. That's what I want to take away from Deadwood.
One Piece - Everyone knows One Piece. And what I want to take away from this one is mostly art related (not because there's something wrong with the story because there isn't and if you say otherwise you're a doo-doo face). The art in One Piece "pops". Like it's about to burst out of the page. Especially during action sequences. That's how I eventually want my art to feel. I also admire the cartoonish playful art style used to incredible effect in both comedic and grim situations.
American Gods (Neil Gaiman) - This is how I want the modernization of the supernatural to feel in Voidchild. Neil Gaiman makes the appearance of old and new gods into society feel as organic as anything else. That's what I want to take away from this wonderful novel.
That's what I can come up with off the top of my head. There are probably more, subtle, influences but these are the one's that are probably the most evident in my work.
