Brand new here and to comics in general. Turning my short story into one

Just wanted to share the first two pages of my new comic "Spoon." Ive just recently really gotten into comics and trying to figure them out more and more everyday. I was a writer first and had a few short stories I wanted to give a go into turning into comics. Tell me what you guys are thinking. i'm gonna try and keep up and post a page a week and should be able to do so. Ive got like a 4 or 5 page buffer right now. Let me know what y'all think!

The style is original, reminds me a bit of that film my brother loved as a kid... Les Triplettes de Belleville" was the french title.
Worth a shot I'd say! As long as you're enjoying it, there's no harm in trying.
Be carefull, a buffer disappears much faster than it appears

Ill be trying for a page a week and should be able to keep up with that for a bit. I know thats probably not enough, but i know two pages a week just isn't gonna be feasible at this point. So glad you're enjoying the look and style and that it sparks memories in you.

Welcome to Tapas, and congrats on starting to post your comic! The beginning has me intrigued. I'm definitely keeping tabs on this one

P.S. A 4-5 page buffer isn't a whole lot of wiggle room- a brave move there, if you ask me. But if posting on a schedule is what keeps you motivated, it's probably worthwhile.

Yeah, I kind of regretted posting it right after I did lol. I've been just going at it with the intentions of traditional publishing and was worried this was gonna force me to rush them out now. But I'll be fine if I do a page a week because I'm knocking out at least one a week of not almost two and was staying on that pace. My intentions are still to get this published traditionally in an anthology of graphic shorts of mine.

Sounds like a worthy goal! I'll bet the journey may be a tight fit in places but you'll push through.

I've got a fondness for traditional publishing as well... which is why I never did get around to the vertical format of comic making...to be honest, I still prefer reading on a laptop screen or zooming in on my phone if I have to over reading vertical format comics. There's something about the challenge of "designing a page" that I love too. Just a personal preference, though I read and enjoy vertical format comics as well. Perhaps we'll continue to see a bit of a philosophical split on formatting as comics go on, much like certain forms of traditional animation or old school video games are still going strong...

Yeah I plan on maybe turning this into a vertical format for like webtoons in the future but that's a totally different animal and the idea of designing comic book pages is still so new and fun to me and I did a lot of research over page design and whatnot so definitely not going to abandon that for the vertical format. Everything I do from here on will always start with the intentions and mindset of traditional publishing.

But yeah that makes sense. As long as we have comics in print we will always have the page format and getting into comics myself I much rather buy and own a nice copy of something as opposed to just having it on my phone. There is nothing cool or special about that at all. But the vertical format is a whole art form in itself and is appealing with all the negative space to play with and even more of a control over the viewer and how quickly or when they see things. Sometimes you just can't help but peer across the physical page or at the bottom before you finish or even sometimes before you even begin reading it lol. I guess you could scroll way down just to be an ass.
