I've been having a very difficult time creating lately just because of world stress (and life stress, being real) and so I decided to start taking the time to really do my "me time" of exercise and like...meditating. Just...stop thinking for 20 minutes every day. Or at least attempt to, haha, I'm really bad at it because I'm not really a meditative type of person at all...but then I noticed a huge improvement in my art/writers block.

So for me it's just learning to stop...thinking. Stop over analyzing, stop worrying about every thing happening in the world and just be present in the moment and kind of detach from stress in this weird stressful time.

That’s awesome! It’s always little nerve wracking to start up again, but you got this! (I also love it when you can see a noticeable improvement in your skills!! :heart_02:)

That’s a really cool idea! It’s sort of like channeled stream of consciousness writing! I really like that idea for the observational skills  I have this (weird? hilarious? ironic?) tendency to describe very little of the surroundings in a story, so this is definitely something I’ll try as a writing exercise

Omg :astonished: that’s so bad!!! I have about 87 different creative things I enjoy doing, so I try really hard to cycle through what kind of art I’m doing and not push any one thing too hard. That helps me not get blocked (most of the time), too. I did a July drawing challenge, though, and by half way through I thought I was going to implode  and I probably still won’t pick up my sketch book for another couple months lol. But I’ll do digital sketches or write or something to keep my creativity flowing

SAAAAAME!! Being an adult is stressful :weary:

This is really good advice! I’m also really bad at slowing down and keeping my stress down and it totally does fry your brain after a while! It’s an interesting cycle because I think creativity helps keep stress down, but you have to keep your stress manageable to be able to create

For. Real.
It’s so frustrating. For me, I’ll have an idea and not be able to turn it into words and I just :sob: :sob:

Writer's block is a form of stress, so logically you want to do something that's writing, but not stressful and easy to accomplish, ergo the writing assignment. If you check Google for "writing assignments to ease stress" you should find a ton.

I was editing so much to keep up with daily updates, that I wasn’t writing in the past few days. Plus, the gym is finally opened. And I need to finish picking cherries (real cherries from a tree, because it confused people before, lol). Oh, and some competitions are finally starting in the sport I follow.

So, yeah, not much, but I got into my chapter rn, it’s only 3 to go to the end & hope to get the next few days writing more, and no longer updating daily.

I have found that writing prompts are helpful if I'm struggling. It forces me to think about something different and then I can focus back on my original project

Why have I never thought to do that before?? :scream:

Yes!! Trying different kinds of art is so helpful, I’ve found! I’m fairly new at digital art, but I think it was an easier transition than it might have been since I dabble in so many other areas

That’s hysterical :joy: (but also amazing - fresh cherries are the best!)

You’re so close!!!!!!! :hype_01: it’s amazing how much writing can happen without all the extra stuff that has to get done throughout a day

They are so helpful!! There were a few “answer from your character’s perspective” threads over the last couple months that legit kept me sane because it helped keep me connected with my characters but also think outside the box and throw them into situations they would never have been in from my story. Super fun!

I had a breakthrough the other night at like 3 am and it was so plot relevant and cute :heart_03: only for me to get back to it and the last ~1k words didn’t save :sob::sob: so I had to type it all over and then power through and finish the chapter :weary:

I got so excited for that first part and then legit gasped when I read part of it didn’t save :scream:
But also, LAST 1K WORDS?!?! Daaaaammmnnnn!! How much did you write??? :heart_01:

In that time span I’d written like 2.5k words so I had to write the 1k over then wrote 1.5k more. So the entire chapter’s sitting at 5.6k. I think you’ll like it :smirk:

THAT’S FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!! :hype_01:
I always like your writing (but now I’m trying to figure out if you’re insinuating anything with that particular emoji )

:smirk::smirk::smirk: am I? I guess you’ll have to find out in like...twoish weeks

I usually fight through writers block by looking at life in a funny way. What I mean is that you should become more aware of your surroundings instead of being overly focused on writing. You would tend to find somethings that make you giggle.
