Bright side of Tapas closing down?

Well, at least I can stop worrying about the cringy bits in my stories. Or editing mistakes. They'll disappear before long.

I´ll focus on my traditional comic which I will send to publishers when
it´s done instead of working on a webtoon I 1) not 100% want to do because
I censor it for an online audience and 2) nobody will read anyway.

I will only miss the forum when it´s gone

Man, it took the end of Tapas for me to finally get motivated back to drawing comics and socializing on the forums again, the irony.

Optimistically, I kinda see an opportunity to make some big changes, particularly to my main story going forward (Friar Chicken ain't done yet lol it just kinda dropped off cause of life and stuckness). Also, I get to play around with HTML/CSS on ComicFury and finish those lore pages that I neglected. Maybe I can go back to traditional comic page layouts versus the scroll format (though ComicFury can handle both, trad pages are just more fun to read/compose)

Not gonna miss the sub-for-subs, though I genuinely liked some of the stories I discovered through that.
Gonna miss the forum and my past occasional cringe posts lol.

Honestly, I had the same thought but that was during the pre-Tapas shut down panic.

My series isn't adult themed, I just noticed how much censoring I had to do for a series that would've been fine if it was published traditionally. But I also have to remind myself, serialized stories has a hard time with keeping plots straight. The pros about not traditionally serializing is, I can stare at the same chapter for months and change minor details over time, and not have to worry too much about the plot falling apart. With traditional publishing, you can't really go back and change something when it's out there, you just have to wing it. Though I'm sure traditional editors have decades of experiences, but even they can't make a bad story good.

Because of that, I decided not to publish traditionally with my comic. The censored parts are more plots for social media etiquette, nothing visually gruesome or 18+ worthy. Of course, I still love the direction the series is going overall. I hope that someday people will see more than just potential.

Publishing online and webcomics do have advantages, especially on pages like
Tapas where everyone could upload a comic. I love the general idea behind
it how uncomplicated it is. Publishing traditionally is hard, and the chance
is big not to be published at all, it takes forever, you´ll have to deal with people,
contracts, have to work professionally etc. it´s hard.

My comic story is also not "extreme" adult, it´s kind of cute adult stories and
not porn or something like that. But it wouldn´t work online anyway because
adults have sex or there is someone naked in the comic etc. I don´t want
to worry about showing the most natural thing in the world because of
censorship. I have been banned from facebook because I uploaded a
sketch from a life drawing class lol

Well… it’s giving me a chance to take what I learned from Tapas and branch out to other platforms. Also I decided to reboot Elsie as I wanted to see how I improved from the original I did… three years ago… Holy Houdini, Batman!

And it has! Also I think this is for the best as the grind I trapped myself in and the toxicity on the forums (not all of you, the majority of people here are lovely and just trying to make a comic) impacted my mental health and anxiety really badly.

So from now on I’ll be drawing my comics in pencil just like the good old days when I was a kid and take it slow.

Also… I achieved my childhood dream on here! I published a webcomic! And now I can make that dream even bigger and better.

I can finally edit my first chapter without having to worry about the character limit. As of right now, it's bumping up against it, and I got some feedback that the PoV character feels a little flat. I can't really do anything about that without splitting it up into two on Tapas.
