Weeeell, making a thread about your own series has its pros and cons. I can speak for nobody but that Zaboem Guy.
On the con side: the forums work very much on a monkey-see monkey-do format, and we are always at risk of seeing these forums buried in self-promotions. I've not seen evidence that such threads actually help increase the audience size either.
On the pro side: Some self-promotion is both inevitable amd healthy. Creators should take pride in their work. There are certainly better places to do so than here, but it doesn't hurt to start here. Also, I find a series-specific thread is far less annoying than spamming nine threads in a row with the same link which has become a normal practice.
Another pro is that if you can actually put interesting or useful content into your thread, then you are contributing to the forums. I would have zero issue with that.
My personal rule is this. I will advertise my own work no more than once per week and only then in an appropriate thread. The "Advertise Your Novel Badly" thread is a perfect example of where I would participate in self promotion and hopefully inspire a laugh while doing so.
