Cats the movie...What'd you think?

I very recently watched Cats and...am in shock? The trailer made everything look so nice and gave the suggestion of a plot.
And then I watched the movie??? Besides the obvious issues of the horrifying CGI (those mouse people, ohmygod), it seemed absolutely devoid of any plot or purpose. I was soooo confused! The whole movie was introductions, and I actually gave up halfway through but was encouraged by my brother to finish it. The only good part, in my opinion, was Jennifer Hudson's musical performance. I was thoroughly disturbed otherwise.

I never saw the musical, nor did I do any research ahead of time. If anyone saw the musical beforehand, was it a better experience for you? And my dear artists...what did you think of the character designs?

Some things are werent meant to be adapted to film. From what I have heard the stage play was very, very, very light on story and was more about the props, the dances and performance.

This film will stick in my mind for weeks every time I close my eyes. I dont know who that movie was made for but I highly doubt its for people who want peace in in the night.

Personally i see the Cats remake as a failed CGI experiment.

Combining cats with human actors may sound interesting in paper, but the execution led to the uncanny valley.

There are some theories that with a different design it may have worked

Ah, I watched that! They should've pulled a Sonic and gone back to the drawing board once people began complaining over the trailer.

I am seriously considering watching the Sonic movie out of respect for taking the time and money to fix it. Also, for Jim Carrey.

Maybe the cats staff thought "if they are making memes it can`t be that bad"

The scale was always changing which somehow made me motion sick. The guy next to me was head-banging to the magic cats song. Jason Derulo wasn't introduced by his name, so the universe felt tilted. The end where they break the fourth wall was the worst part. That being said I had a great time, I did go to this movie on a date though.

Ironically from what I heard while it was in development hell it was going to be animated. Thou I dont think it would have necessarily made it good, I do think it would have been more visually appealing overall.

@DiegoPalacios Yeah, I was really impressed with how well they took the criticism. And oh boy, they sure are getting the memes.

@An_Alias I feel like having someone with me would've made me feel a lot safer watching it lol. And I blocked out the end bit but do remember slamming my laptop shut and glaring at my brother for the hell he made me go through.

@Freemints30 Animated would've been soooo much better. Or they could've gone the route of the musical and made silly costumes.

I get the impression it's worse than Xanadu, another classic Universal musical.

We'll look back in 20 years and be horrified that it somehow has a cult following. I'm certain.

You mean like The Room or Miami Connection?

No. I mean, hard and firm, I question why Rocky Horror is a cult phenomenon. That same kind of cult love will likely fall on this movie. If only it'll be "forgotten" like many Disney movies.

I haven't seen this movie and I don't want to see it anymore lol. It is very said that sometimes the trailer shows that it will be a very interesting movie and even makes you wait for it. But in the fact on the trailer, they spend more money than on the movie, and here we have the results. Thank you guys for sharing your experience with this movie but I'll better play with my kitty and try to make something for her. I found on the internet a blog which says Build your own cat tree. So I'll better stay and build my cat's tree that I'll watch this movie.

I could name another musical that ended up being a cult classic, like "Xanadu". It's about a frustrated painter who enlarges album covers for a living. He's at a creative dead end and a muse pops up to inspire him again. After that, the movie goes to some very strange places with a weak plot. Derided as the "one of worst movies ever made" at the time, it went on to become a cult classic because of Oliver Newton John, the music, and many viewers found the movie had heart and a sincere desire to entertain the viewers.

Now if "Cats" as something offer beyond uncanny valley eyesores posing as Cat People. Maybe, it will find a cult audience.
