I suppose that part is in the eyes of the beholder. I see it as a beautiful and necessary part of nature. Having wolf spiders is kind of a good thing, since they regulate pest insects.

I will add that spiders don't really have the capability to 'think' it's more of 'react.' Even wolf spiders eye-sight isn't so good to be able to judge that kind of difference between human and food source. It's kind of, if something crosses their path while they hunt and it's within size range...then they pounce and envenomate with their fangs.

Since this is apparently a space specifically for contention, can I challenge the entire premise of this thread? ^^

No prob.

Most of the people who will respond don't actually need this kind of practice, and those who do need it either won't be here or will probably just ignore the rules once they feel strongly enough about something. =/

Disagree.
The idea of this topic was to turn the concept of conformity inside out and see, what will happen. The thing is: conformity "instinct" gives us inclement toward agreement with the given rules. But what if the rules themselves encourage disagreement? In this case conformity "instinct" should encourage people to follow the rules... which will discourage conformity "instinct".

So, the plan of the training is:

1. The effect, described above, should make it a bit easier for people to disagree here, than in another places.
2. After doing it, people will get some amount of positive reinforcement toward disagreement, because they'll see that nothing horrible will happen.
3. Maybe after getting such reinforcement it'll be easier for them/me to feel more free in general and make the same more often outside of this topic.

Will conformity habit eat itself like Uroborous? Well, of course, that not entirely, it's too strong. But maybe it will at least bite it's own tale a bit.

Smartphones made 8 years ago still work perfectly fine. The constant social pressure to upgrade phones is wasteful and nothing more than mindless consumerism.

Me disagree because of expanding role of smartphones. With something like a smartphone laptop dock, a new or new-ish phone can serve as perfectly-adequate office machine. That less viable with older devices.

But many people don't use such advanced features. So for them, it's no sense to overpay for it.

Me could see many students using it for school though. Why pay for both laptop and phone and go through hassle of coordinating files?

I don't think smartphones should be designed to replace laptops. I think desktops offer a lot of features which a phone could never emulate. Honestly it would be far smarter to get a tablet if you do not want a laptop. Me and many other people use phones for calls, texts, photos, social media and internet browsing, features which have been present in smartphones for the last 10 years. A lot of the newer features added to smartphones are just gimmicks like longer screens and more cameras.

It add to a phone's useful life though, if you can buy one secondhand and turn it into cheap office machine. Good for environment because more mileage.

Most people buying smartphones are not tech savvy enough to do that. Or at least, it is not what people in the United States are doing. A know there are some countries that tend to not upgrade as often.

That okay, secondhand market could be in another country. That how it work with your clothes. Too many Americans seem to get rid of garments that still look brand-new or are easily-repaired.

On the other hand, me have learned not to Google any name-tags me find on clothes, in case it turn up funeral notice. It not a good feeling to realize you an wearing a dead man's (comfy) shorts.

Centipedes are too slow and octopi are too rare. That is why we dont freak out over them.

I disagree. (duh ) Honestly, it depends on the actual animal. (not saying that disabled dogs and cats aren't cute or anything, because they are,) but it can also be because of the way some animals act. like if there was a dog with rabies trying to attack you, your obviously going to think that another dog (say it's a toy poodle or something) is cuter because of its personality.

Me like all the added safety features, like airbags and crumple zones.

But I don't care neither about safety, airbags (my car doesn't had none, and ABS, and everything else electronic) and neither about crumple zones. Awful design is not that price I want to pay for safety. No way.
I don't want to see blob on wheels every day when looking on my car. And thanks that I don't see, because my car is picture 1 from my first post and if I'll ever going to change it someday - it won't be modern ugly piece of plastic for sure.

I rather not die on the road. If that means having squishy airbags save my life and having ABS (or even better AWD) when drawing up in the freaking mountains in winter here, I'm A-okay with generic ugliness. Convenience, safety, and practicality over looks. Comfort > style.

Honestly, I don't hate Nickelback. I like Motley Crue but I never got the Nickelback hate.

I just...can't stand either band, mostly for their lyrical content and overall 'life is a party' themes. I may be a Metalhead, but I definitely don't like music about the whole sex, drugs, and rock n roll mentality. I prefer lyrics that have something meaningful to say, like calling out corruption, or making something constructive out of my life by fighting my inner demons. Heck, even songs about warriors and battle are far more interesting to me. (Not surprising since I write an action comic)

Then...we can get into the actual music. Not only is it not hard enough for my tastes, it's just not that interesting to me, and doesn't line up with my perception of what is 'good music.' (there's a ton of subjectivity there, I won't even pretend to be a gatekeeper. Like what you like for whatever reasons.)

Finally, there's yet another layer, beyond lyricism and music. It is also intrinsically tied to my art and creation of characters and story. Nickelback and Motley Crue add absolutely zero to that. Plus I can't draw to it so...yeah...
