Whoa, it's already been a month... crazy how time flies.
Random Facts:
- 7 of the 11 spotlight banners were long form stories.
- 10 of the 11 spotlighted comics were done by female creators/creative
teams.
- We quadrupled the amount of click thru's from last September
- I messed up twice on the copy writing for the spotlight banner so parts of the text were clipped or masked by the overlapping app banner directly below!
Rock and Riot managed to shatter a bunch of previously recorded records on the site. They pretty much skewed a lot of the data for the month so please keep that mind when reading through the rest of the report.
Rock and Riot had the highest click-thru rating for any spotlighted banner, as well as the highest conversation rate for reader to subscriber during that three day stretch. In fact, what's most impressive is that it out performed so many seven day features in previous months on their first day alone. So what exactly happened?
It could be due to the fact that the day one feature occurred on a Monday which is typically a great day for us (highest number of new updates occur on Monday) as well as the day three feature ending on Wednesday (traditionally the highest subscriber rate day). But when you read the comic itself (here's the link), you'll understand that it's just a really really well done and charming comic. It simply resonated with our readership. Also, having a pretty hilarious banner didn't hurt either.
Continuing the trend from last month, the ratio from views to likes increased alongside a massive increase in subscriber rates. The surge in subscriber rates are largely attributed to the performances from Rock and Riot alongside My Chinese is No Good...
We did not see the same spike in weekend subscribe rates, but a return to form for Wednesdays. Wednesday subscribe rates alone accounted for 20% of all subscribe rates for spotlight banners this past month.
Interesting thing to note is that we saw the highest number of subscribers occurring after the fourth episode. This could mean a variety of things, but most importantly is that by the fourth episode, you'll typically complete a story beat or maybe even a chapter which gives the reader a lot of confidence in whether the series is really for them or not.
I'll be unpinning this topic in a week or so but I'll return routinely to report on additional findings.
For the month of October, we'll be featuring thematically darker comics as preluded by yesterday's feature of SCARY (link here). Wait... is preluded a real word?
Also, happy #INKTOBER everyone! Looking forward to seeing what everyone will be drawing this month.
