first the question!

how does your oc view lying?
Do they think it's necessary? Do they think it's horrible to do even one white lie? Do they only do it when they have to?

Kerren, i mean his story is called a Silvertongue's Tale, he is the silvertongue. While silvertongue's are those who often have a lot of charisma, silvertongues (at least where i've grown up) often get attributed to conmen and liars. Kerren does have charisma, and he has this...way that gets people to trust him.

as he gets older, he finds lying necessary for survival. He will do it to others that a gang leader orders him to, he will do it to friends so they don't leave him ( he will get better at that when it's all out in the open), he will even do it to himself to try and justify everything he's had to do.

He will lie to others in a phsyical sense (getting a disguise amulet to change his appearance, which reading the comic will be easy to understand that, so he doesn't have to deal with the constant stares and whispering), so he can just have some peace.

He will get better about the lying, but still he views it as something that he needs to do to survive.

What does your oc think about lying?

Julian definitely feels lying is essential to his existence. Despite that, every lie or omission of truth feels like black sludge in his stomach. He hates it and he doesn't want to, but if people were to find out - what then?

He also naturally assumes the people around him are lying, especially lately. They've given him no reason to trust them.

Both of my characters lie to themselves on what their doing on a daily basis.

Ivan is a thief, so he lies as easily as he breaths. He will lie in whatever way he needs to and he lies even when he doesn't, as long as lying makes things more amusing or easier for him. He really doesn't care what effects his lies brings to anyone else as long as his life becomes more convenient.

June doesn't tell outright lies often. When she does, she's only doing it to hide her identity or her past, rather than to manipulate other people. She doesn't really believe all that much in manipulating other people, actually, at least not by lying to them. Some assholes might end up getting tortured, though...

I would say my main character, Bally, doesn't like lying, but will definitely lie if she has to to get out of difficult or uncomfortable situations, or give white lies so as to not hurt someone's feelings. She's also known to make up somewhat outlandish lies like in the first panel of this page in order to avoid getting into trouble

The two central characters have a completely opposite view of lying.

Omari, the Scarlet Spellcaster, is a gambler. Specifically a card player. Lying is a part of the job. He's deceitful, deceptive and daring in his delivery. Bluffs, misdirection, little white lies, half truths, it doesn't matter what it takes. As long as the end result pays out, nothing is off limits.

Xiaolian, the Azure Dragon, is honest and honorable. Their pride comes before all else and in their eyes, there is no pride in lying. Though young, they hold a high level of respect for themselves and for others. They're honest to a fault at times, due to their naivety to the world around them.

Elliott hates lying and will generally only do it to protect someone they care about.

Puck is a little more grey when it comes to morality, and is alright with lying if it doesn't hurt anybody, but doesn't really like lying to people he cares about. For instance, he tells Elliott a few lies towards the beginning of their friendship in order to pass as a normal human teenager/to get Elliott into the habit of making offerings. The better he gets to know them, the worse he feels about lying, and eventually has to come clean.

PS these threads are kind of fun... helps me to get to know my own characters in a more concrete way

My main characters, Jayden and Kousuke are entirely pretty opposite people but there is one thing they can agree on, they hate lying.

Jayden hates lying to other people. He's naturally an honest and curious kind of dude so it's kind of out of character for him to lie. It's just not possible, he struggles too much about keeping his mouth shut. If he has a question, he'll ask. He's just too blunt.

Kousuke absolutely detests being lied to. He hates feeling betrayed and that may or may not be connected to his childhood. Being lied to makes him feel 'used', or 'played' so he can't really help being defensive. Even the simplest lies can upset him for a few days. The funny thing though is that he's a very secretive person and likes his privacy. He'll lie about how he's feeling or that he was fine but becomes extremely offended if he's lied to. He's a hypocrite.

Lucifer thinks lying is sometimes necessary to protect the others but also to benefit himself, ngl. He is not a big lyier but he isnt also a saint (logical, right?). He always looks very sincere and open about anything though, cause he needs the others to trust him, so you will never notice when he lies.

Amèlia isn't that sincere to herself. She sometimes lies to look more educated and as Lucifer to benefit herself but she will never ever admit it and will also critisize those who do. She's an average human after all

Liar: has used it as way of living -hence his name- but now its using it as illusions. Now he only lies for his spells tho
Ira: He hates lies. Hes brutally honest
Caelis: He's also against lies but contrary to Ira, he delivers any kind of truth in a softer kinder way

Cozmata's mom always told her lying is bad... So she tries to avoid it, but if she has to lie to save face, she doesn't have much of a problem with it.
She is also a very bad liar, so when she does try... Most people pick up on it

Lying huh, let's see...

Agony- Yeah, it's fun. useful too, not as good as swearing, but it has it's merits.
Thesis- I'm er... I'm not too good at it. (que Agony absolutely eviscerating him)
Duenna - It's wrong! It's despicable!.... Though sometimes you must hide certain truths from children. For their protection.
Motif - Oh! Uh... I don't do it much. Saying what you really think is just easier, ya know? I use my bandages as tissues sometimes! (que Duenna being horrified)
Sequel - (says nothing. You can't lie if you never speak)

The main characters in my series, Stellar and Steppe, would almost never lie about big issues. That's from fear of their strict government. That wouldn't make much of a story though! In the beginning of the book, Stellar (whose a scientist) is illegally keeping an civilian named Tilde in her astronomy observatory. Tilde's older sister is abusive and Stellar wants to protect her dear friend. This is illegal because the observatory contains information on new possible exoplanets for their world to exploit (not that Tilde gives a hoot). Steppe, a military member himself, has feelings towards Stellar. He presently has no feelings towards Tilde other than pity. But because he it's Stellar he's wanting to protect, he doesn't report her and Tilde. This causes issues when Tilde disappears and Stellar begs Steppe for help (who refuses).

In chapter 2 Era literally lies about not getting jumped because she was embarrassed about the whole ordeal just due to not wanting to be treated or perceived as weak.

So lying isn’t a complete “no, no; can’t do that” for her.

Ooh, so here's a fun fact about the Elves in my universe; they don't tend to lie. They will spin half truths, or refuse to give a straight answer to a question, or tilt their words this way to make it seem like they're implying the opposite of what they actually mean... but if they care at all about your opinion of them, they're unlikely to lie.

It's not an absolute rule, but it's a noticeable tendency.

Merry is no exception to this, and there's so much she will simply not answer. If she's being indirect about something, the implication is that it's something she can't tell you.

Rokuzo will lie when he deems it appropriate, but when he lies it is mostly because he wants to keep his private life private. Because In most cases he won't bother saving face with people he doesn't like, so white lies are always off the table.

Ahiko thinks that everyone lies, as far as her frequency I'm not sure.

Enossa thinks that lies can tamper data ad research, so she highly detests it. She would rather be disappointed but the truth than betrayed by a lie.

Alfredo has a bad issue with Lying, He takes at heart being able to trust someone, and the mere idea of being lied to might... press his Berserk button, and even he himself wouldn't lie, but rather remain silent.

Iris lies. ALL THE TIME. It's to protect her identity as a reincarnator and to not cause suspicions. But she needs to rehearse the lie or she'll be like Joey with the raccoon story - not believable and just utter nonsense. However, sometimes rehearsing is worthless because she freezes and stammers.
