Clarification of the proper image and dpi resolution (Paint Tool SAI 2 users)

I have been aching on trying to figure this entire thing out.

I want to shrink down my drawing but keep the quality as clean as possible. The problem is when i do this, i have to adjust the resolution to a larger scale. Tapas doesn't support above 940x4000, which is a major issue because once i try to lower the scale downwards, the image becomes warped and disfigured. I have tried everything under the book to my knowledge and to those who've helped me trying to figure this to work properly, but I cannot do it. It frustrates the hell out of me because i KNOW there is a simple way to fix this, and im missing out on it because there's nothing that's making sense for how i've tried to accomplish this, and I KNOW there's an easy way to do it despite my efforts.

Can someone please, for the love of good, tell me what im doing wrong.

I think you might be getting the DPI (dots per inch) confused with the pixel resolution. DPI is not a size, but a relationship between the pixel resolution of an image and how big it would be if you printed it. 300 DPI basically means for every 300 pixels, it equals 1 inch.
Tapas has a max image size of 940x4000 pixels. At 300 dpi, this would be 3.13 inches by 13.3 inches.

as for Paint Tool SAI 2, you might want to switch the resampling method to different types and see which one you like the best.

I guess my question is how are you shrinking your pages down? If you're manually doing it, it can get a bit hairy sometimes because yes -- that can make the images warped and weird.

In order to fit Tapas's scaling, have you tried Croppy?

A lot of creators use this to make sure their bigger sized pages fit Tapas (and Webtoons') requirements. It'll slice and resize your images so that you don't have to worry too much about manually doing that. Just export your files into png/jpeg, and you're good to go. Croppy takes both.

Overall, @CytricAcid had it right -- DPI isn't a size. It's the quality you get for every pixel within your digital work. It's why some images on the internet are blurry when downsided but others are not: they vary in DPI quality.

Just don't worry about the DPI then, it's only relevant if you're printing stuff out.
in SAI2, when you go to Change Canvas Resolution, if you find resizing something down looks weird, changing the Resampling Method to a different type and see if that looks better. you can also try merging all your layers before scaling it down as well

There are still sites online that'll help you out. Sometimes, you need to combine two of them. I use sites like this to resize things that aren't comics:
