Clip studio has the right tools to make comics! Theres frame border and cut frame tool in there so you can make panels easy.

That's something PS doesn't have. HOWEVER, photoshop to me was nice for adding action words and sounds into the comic because you could put it in any direction you wanted.

If I could I would have both Clip Studio and PS. If only lol

I highly recommend the EX upgrade for making comics. Making a folder of multiple page files set up in spreads with consistent page specs all in one go and then having them automatically arranged in a nice window on your workspace so you can easily jump between them is SO good.

I swear, Clip Studio's perspective ruler tool is worth the price all on its own. I haven't quite streamlined my process to be done entirely in Clip yet, but just doing my backgrounds in Clip with the perspective ruler on saves me literally hours of time!

I have Ps, but I’d love to switch to cap, seeing as I’ll only have PS until 12th grade, so I could possibly use both! But idk whether I should buy a tablet with CSP, or just straight up buy the software, and use it with my schools tablet... decisions, decisions...

It's a little confusing at first, and the tool doesn't really explain how to use it, so I definitely recommend watching a video tutorial on how to use it. But once you get used to it, it's a serious game changer! Backgrounds are actually fun to draw instead of a struggle.

I've been on the free trial just waiting for the summer sale to buy EX!
it has sooo many great features for making comics, although it was really the asset library and converting 3D objects to lineart that really won me over since I needed more tools to save time on my comic.

For anyone who's still on the fence with clip studio, there's a 3 months free trial and when that runs out you can get an additional 3 months free trial if you sign up for the monthly plan, the first 3 months are free so it won't charge you until the trial is over, you can cancel before then.

@CrystallikeICE It's pretty much the same for me- there are things CSP does that Photoshop doesnt and things that PS can do that Clip Studio cant do. CSP does lettering, but currently is awful for fonts that have features like auto ligatures- so I stick with doing my lettering in Illustrator. This year I've been pushing myself to do a lot more coloring on my single projects in CSP; I'll most likely still color my comic mainly in PS and toggle to do certain effects in CSP.

@emvink I dont think the CSP app for the iPad will ever go on sale...1) it's already dirt cheap- you get the Pro version for UNDER $5/month(that's the version I have for my iPad) and 2) they basically give you a number of months free trial usage before you even commit to the subscription.

@ninjashira havent used the perspective ruler enough to get used to it, but LOVE the symmetry ruler...cant draw the same sized features on a face? The symmetry ruler helps you do that- and you ONLY have to draw on ONE side of the ruled marker; it auto-draws/copies your every pencil stroke on the other side.

You definitely have to start your pages in CS to make this feature work. because it's in the "comic" options when you make a new file. It's most efficient if any work you do in other programs doesn't turn up til the end, so you can export files as psd or jpg or whatever (probably what you're doing), but it's hard to input things into a "story".
So on Errant, my pipeline is:
Make the story, each page I do panelling, pencilling, inking, colours, then export as a single layer jpg and go to Photoshop to space out panels and add speech bubbles for Tapas.
If I was making a comic for long-scroll first without caring too much about print, I'd honestly probably skip Photoshop and do my speech bubbles in CS as well. I've found very few things now I want to do in a comic that the latest versions of Clip Studio can't do. (I've been a bit slow on the uptake because I've been using the program since ye olde Manga Studio 3 and keep forgetting the new one does things the older iterations didn't do or didn't do well hahaha).

I say buy it when it's cheap and keep the access code handy so you can use in the future. It's a one time buy as long as you have that access code.

I love Clip Studio Paint so much! The sale is totally worth it and definitely the time to buy! I actually just upgraded to EX this time around and I'm excited to use some of the new features to help stay more organized! (and also to try out animating in the program!)
