[CLOSED] Looking for a beta reader (kind of) - UNPAID

Hi Guys!

I have come across the problem of not being able to find some information about seemingly unimportant parts of my novel Liability because I forgot to add it to my notes when writing a chapter. facepalm So, here I am looking for a beta reader who is more along the lines of helping me with tidying up my notes and completing my character profiles. They are also welcome to give advice or their thoughts on the chapters being written.

I would love to offer payment but as I make no money off my writing so at the moment I can't, I'm sorry!

So this sounds like you're looking for an editor?

You'll probably want to give a more detailed description of exactly what you are looking for and needing help with.
Editing is a lot of work and can be really demanding- you also have to understand the tone and feeling the writer is trying to convey so it's a lot of back and forth communication.

It'll be hard to find someone to edit for free but good luck to you!

Thanks for your reply! No, I'm not looking for an editor at the moment. If this novel ever goes into publishing (something I highly doubt), I'll get an editor and fork out the money to help me beat the plot and text into a publishable shape.

What I currently need is someone who is willing to read my story when they have some spare time and collect some missing information (e.g. when one character's mother died, how they became friends, etc.) about my characters I think I have already written about in one of the chapters, so I can tidy up my notes and keep the plot consistent.

There isn't any hurry about this as the chapters I publish are mostly first edits so some discrepancies happen no matter how much I try to keep everything in line and take notes when new info pops up. It's just as the story grows I sometimes find myself uncertain about some of the personal details about my characters and I can't always find what I'm looking for in the text through searching (and sadly I don't really have the time to reread over 120K words).

Even beta reading (especially for what sounds like a longer project)is quite a bit of work to ask from a stranger.

A fairer deal would be to offer a 'read-for-read' type deal and offer to beta read someone else's novel in exchange. It also might be a good idea to tell us more about your novel (genre(s), characters, etc.) so people know more about what they might be getting into.

Thanks for the reply! I have done beta reading before without any compensation (maybe it was foolish of me but I love editing work and it was great practice), but yeah that would be a fair idea. Luckily, I have managed to solve my issue and found the info I needed, so I am closing this topic now. Still, I'll take your advice if I ever choose to get a beta reader! Many thanks! ^_^
