Don't you love it when it's time to introduce a new character to your comics? How do you do character sketches and concepts? Share it so we can learn from each other!

Character sketches are hard for me so I just throw them into an environment and figure things out. This is my first character concept of Da'izura for my graphic novel "A Symphony of Rust and Snow". She's a Lieutenant in the Duskwatch!

I don't actually do finalized character concepts, I draw a rough sketch of the character to give me a general idea of their design and then just draw them straight in the comic. This leads to me adjusting the designs as I go because what looks good in a singular concept might not work so well in comic pages.

Does this lead to inconsistencies? Sure. I like to call it "evolution" though.

Your artwork looks amazing, you sure put a lot of effort into them.

Street preacher looking for his proverbs 31 wife.
He CAN easily cheat given his stats... but he WONT cheat and remain faithful to you because he fears God. He's a lumberjack, carpenter, and veteran. So he can provide and protect you no problem.

But he has high standards for his potential wife. Being model tier is not enough.

I think you missed the part where a skech should be sketchy haha. Jokes aside, spending too much time on concepts can work against you, but truth be told, I ususally stick with the first idea that I come up with instead of trying several options and choosing the best one, so I can't really blame you, everyone has their process.

For me, I draw a "final" art for each character and put them in a lineup. Lastly I grab the draw with only the flat colors and draw the head In different angles to trace them when needed.

Hey just wanted to say I think it's really cool you're making a sci-fi comic (with awesome artwork and story at that too) I was stuck in a rut overthinking that no one would care for mine because I felt that sci-fi/fantasy are less common genres when it comes to webcomics. Glad to see others sharing amazing work. Here are some sketches of my characters, these are concept pieces I more or less came up with on the spot. It was based on a dream I had about a mercenary being tasked to eliminate an innocent dragon creature but ended up rebelling against the one who hired him:

@jwabeasley Yeah I always start with putting characters in context of the environement. I find it easier to set up environment moods than make characters. My main character took 3 years to make lol

some concepts of wings i did for winged characters, plus a mix of the first official/finished concepts for many of characters (the busts).... some of those busts are really old aha some are fairly new. and then REALLY old first concepts from 2019 - 2020
