Comics about already existing copyright characters

Is it allowed to create comics about funny things I noticed in movies and other comics like that of DC and Marvel? I mean I will have to actually include them in my comic though they are not my properties.

Well, maybe if you declare it as a non-profit fan base comic parody, you won't have trouble with copyrights.

Just like how DBZ Abdidge claims their series as a fan parody.

Like do you mean if you can have a cameo? Like maybe a character has a spiderman poster on their wall or something? I mean you can but you can't make money off of it. Chances are big companies would never notice, and in the case of just having something appear in world like a logo or something like that, it would be sort of like almost a parody right? It's probably fine but I wouldn't make it the backbone of whatever you're doing.

I think that is well within the definition of parody and you should be ok.

Keep ONE additional thing in mind...

Being in the right in regards to parody laws does not mean you won't be sued over it. Giant companies like Disney can employ a legal maneuver known as "death by a thousand cuts". They just keep taking you to court, win or lose, and drain your financial resources.

Parodies should fall under the "transformative works" section of copyright law, so it should be fine.

If you transform the original work, such as criticizing it, parody, education, then you should be fine since it is partially your own creation by transformation. Doujinshi (self published works, often fancomics) fall under this category.

If you straight up take the work as is, that's just stealing.

Hmm, maybe if you notify hanna barbera about it (or whoever owns the copyright), they may take action and there will be raging flame, war, and drama...?

It depends on which country you're in, but generally such things are considered illegal. It sometimes goes unpunished if the company that owns the content doesn't notice (because your comics is small and has a tiny fanbase) or if the copyrighted content isn't obvious. Also, some creators allow for their characters to be used by others. But it's generally better not to. Just create your own characters if you want to have a Patreon?
