Painted in Red—supposed to be my next project but it is not happening now, because I just see it getting zero reads in Fantasy section.

Summary:

When Karina Dos Santos’ moderate dad employs her on a geological expedition into the unexplored wilderness, far away from the ravages of war and revolution, he doesn’t dream of putting a key to victory into her hands. Now, she, a young propaganda artist, must decide whom to entrust with the secret mapped in the sacred lands—or carry it to an early grave on foreign soil.

Teenage edgy me thought up something called "SickPeople" and it was about well... Sick people. There was a disease that made people gradually go insane, but also made them gain superpowers with it. I got as far as making one page before dropping the thing.

Here is the MC. The art is from 2012 and proportions are all kinds of messed up.

I had the only page somewhere, but I lost it.

There was also this other idea I had, which was just pure chaos, because I kept adding lore and characters, but didn't work on the plot... All I have left is some art. xD

And this idea, where I made up a bunch of "samurais", but they were all just "handsome" guys. My 2010 art is so bad, lol.

If I were to reboot them all, I'd cut out some characters and lower the edgyness of the first one. There's nothing wrong with edgy stories, but I feel this might've been too much. xD

There was more, but those three ideas lasted in my head more than a month. Now comic ideas last longer and I actually manage to get to work on them, but rip those that didn't make it.

I'll dive into into my first. Momma's Boy was a high-school martial arts shonen comic idea I had that just.. Absolutely failed. The basic idea being that like the school itself was so totalitarian and like none of it managed to get out, there was like a hierarchy of students and the number of riot-like situations I ended up putting the kids through was absolutely ridiculous lol towards the end, it practically became a war between two schools and police got caught up in everything oops

I ended up planning way more than I could handle writing. Even then, I kinda lost interest due to my tastes changing and noticing how unrealistic everything was. It's that fun nonsense a teenager would've probably loved but like I said, it just wasn't for me anymore. I never got an artist on-board, and I never was interested in turning this into a novel. I wanted it to be an animated series originally before falling into webcomics, so.. Yeah, this never stood a chance lol I'm glad it fell through

If I rebooted it though? No high-school setting, cut the cast in half at least, smaller time frame of events.. Like 75% of the whole thing gets an overhaul. Only a handful of scenes would remain untouched plot-wise due to me still finding them the strongest points of my earliest writings.. But tbh, the characters and scenes are better off used in some other thing I work on in the future

The original version of RotH was called Sorcerer's Rise. It was my very first attempt at published webcomics and ended because of a burnout, continued hate and eventually me losing all the files because of a laptop crash

This is my time to shine!

My main project for the longest time was called Mercy and Mutiny, which was a dark fantasy webcomic about a sailor who washed up on the shores of a cult.

It was shelved for a few reasons.

The main reason was because it was rejected from the online publisher I pitched it to, and frankly I'm kind of glad it wasn't picked up. It was a project I spent many, many years on, but also had far too much going on at once with it, too. I was very disorganized with theming and plot.

I think it needs a little more time in the oven before I come back to it, as it still holds a dear spot in my heart.

Anyway, right now I'm working on a new project called The Fairy Ridge! This webcomic isn't meant to be as strenuous and high caliber, and instead serves as my window to exploring the field and getting some much needed experience. : )

fun idea haha! My gag-a-day type comic that I once posted was an instant regret because of how shit my art was and because I disliked drawing the characters. It was called 'geek of the week' but I figured out the jokes were never gonna be only geek themed, so I dropped the concept for a bit. I have a lot of concept art for it since I was ready to post it and then cowarded, so lets see how much tapas accepts.

I am gonna reboot at least some of the jokes in the reworking I'm planning, which is going to have similar characters with the same names as these two, but anthro and it will allow me for some more soft personal slice of life as well. I don't have concept art for that one on my computer yet.

A big RIP for... HeroBreak.

So HeroBreak was a participatory comic I was making on the mspa (Homestuck) forums, where the actions and also the names of the characters were influenced by user suggestions. It was a Fantasy story about a group of people who didn't know each other from our world, who found themselves in a new world, all separated by miles, but able to communicate via a psychic link.
It was done in a Homestuck style, ie. Single panels rather than separated with gutters with logs of text underneath. Though the visual style, other than limited colour and use of gifs, was quite different from Homestuck, and I did sometimes use panel borders to facilitate conversations between multiple characters in different places...

There were some pretty fun characters like "Sumisu Jou" (Joe Smith), The Warrior, a massive weeb who basically wishes he was Kamina from Gurren Lagann...

And Minerva, The Sage, who kinda ended up as the main protagonist by virtue of being picked as the first player character. She takes no guff from wizards and doesn't just let nonsense slide.

It died due to a combination of my own hubris, thinking I could make a Homestuck style animated set piece where The Paladin leaps out of an airship on a magical unicorn and smashes through a hoard of flying monsters timed to music I commissioned specially despite never having animated anything so long or complex and having a full-time job.
...aaaaaand the fact that then the Homestuck forums went offline when the site was changed and.... they never came back. Ever.

So because I didn't really keep the site I mirrored it on going... the text is pretty much lost to time now and I only have the images.

I always try to cannibalize the works that don't make it, so things like old Original Character Tournament submissions become other things eventually... But a few just had to go.

I tried many many times to have a comic/novel series about a dragon character of mine going around the Multiverse doing missions, ending in their own home world with the overarching threat. As it turns out though, the character just isn't protagonist material - I've got outlines for a story where they're part of a larger crew and it's much better already.

I've also had many MANY plans for Nuzlocke comics, but motivation ran dry as I realized long drawn out fanworks aren't my thing.

The biggest loss isn't a comic or novel, but the most recent one is an animation project. It's ALL traditional and I meant to redraw it after I finished uni, but... I've got better stuff to do, even when it comes to practicing animations.

I once had an idea about a military dad becomming a magical girl after his daughter dies while trying to save him. The dad was gonna have a magical girl transformation with frilly dress and all and was gonna be a bizarre mix of comedy, action and drama.

But then i found on Tapas a really cool comic made by another author about a dad becomming a magical girl and while it has some differences from what i had in mind, i realized the premise was already done. I thought, "oops....too late for that, also, they are nailing the concept", so i took a step aside.

BTW, i totally recommend it.

Beyond Your Legacy. My first ever attempt at a real novel. Failed miserably but it’s better that way.

Beyond Your Legacy was a story about Naso Hashimoto, princess of Riari and 3rd in line of the throne. She was never allowed outside for some odd reason and was never told why. One day she snags a ride on a pegasus and escapes in order to explore and find out why. During this short period of time she has almost 10 near death experiences.
She runs into a group of people, the leader of it being a boy named Kaori Jinsei and his “friend” Shiori Kyo. They bring her back to a palace where the Queen of Shizaki is. Turns out Kaori is a prince and that Naso is actually a princess of Shizaki and not Riari! Shocker. After making this discovery She decides to stay and reconnect with her family before choosing to go back. Her previous family finds her and assume that she was kidnapped by Shizaki. They yell to Naso about how Shizaki people were a bunch of messed up dogs and the Shizaki people talk about how they were being suppressed by Riari. Stuff happens and she ends up going back to Riari with her second family. Kaori, being furious, declares war on Riari, with it being approved by his mother who had became ill out of nowhere.

And I didn’t get much farther. There was a lot of plot to it but I gave you the general gist of Act 1.

Why it never came to be or why it wasn't finished?

It was never finished because I got burned out as my work was becoming boring as said by a friend of mines and I kept on getting new plot ideas that I didn’t have the time to add in as it would require me to rewrite the start.

I have a lot of it but they’re just drawings of the characters and I’m too lazy to find them all. So nothing to post.

If you rebooted it, what would you change about it?

Not an if question. It has to be rebooted as it’s an important period in my world’s history. I’ll probably cut a lot of characters that was in it and do some altering. I implemented guilds into that world so they’re important, plus a lot of countries will be in there too as they were implemented too. Naso will have some changes, Kaori’s name will be changed. Kaori and Shiori will be secretly together because logic. And much more changes to the plot.

Sorry for the long read. This was a really important story to me. I remember reading what I got done of the story recently and realized the writing wasn’t bad. I could’ve easily continued writing it but I guess it was for the best that I didn’t continue it.

I had a similar experience with a comic I recently drop. I didn't know if I wanted to write a journey about redeeming oneself or more of a magical sci-fi adventure.

It was about a country where the dead could be brought back to life. At some point I was planning to reveal the reason this was possible was because everyone were automatons.

Now I feel like I was juggling with two very different stories with different themes.

If I rebooted it I would focus more on one aspect and stick with it.
