Comics: Hobby or Career/Business?

More of a mix, though I lean towards hobby than anything else. I've made a bit of money from commissions and other sites here and there for my works, and I've definitely enjoyed the feedback I've gotten from viewers.

But, at the same time, I don't think I'd enjoy it as much if I decided to take it on as a full-time job. I like to keep it a hobby, despite having the slight side-business. So, I'm getting my degree in Electrical Engineering, which is also something else I like. I'm currently interning at a good place (Com-ED), and I'm thinking of having my career with them.

It's not the say I believe work tears down the things you like. It's just, I draw a lot, and I mean a LOT. It is my main go-to for relaxing. So if I was drawing day in and day out, it would get a wee bit exhausting and I'd probably just end up taking a break anyhow XD

Career/Business in the future. I would love to get paid for my work, but if I could get to a point where I'm paying my bills from it??? Dream come true.

Hobby, but I’d really like to do it as a career once I get out of college/high school lol. I enjoy drawing comics for other people’s scripts too so I think I’d be down to do that as a steady job

Realistically unless you become one of the lucky few its not going to be your primary income.

Honestly I have always wanted to do it as a career but my mum gave me safe advice regarding what I would need to do to put food on the table. I spent a lot of time time in my 20s building my career but man did I miss drawing. When I finally came back to it it was like I came home. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to make it my primary income but I now know that I'll always go back to it.

I hope to make it a career one day. It's gotten decent traction for being new and having no webcomic audience at the start. We got a bit of money from it but nothing to keep us afloat by itself.

It is currently my career/business, but it's also not my only source of income as much as I wish it was (I absolutely hate working on commissions and side projects with people, having people tell me what to draw is both a headache and incredibly NOT enjoyable in any way what so ever for me)

This year is pretty rough in terms of earnings though >< some years are better than others and all that. So have to be really careful with my money this year. Also hurts with the motivation when something you work so hard on is doing so poorly. I probably need to wean myself OFF of tapastic faster to see better results.

Wish it could be my main source of income, but right now I doubt so. My comics are not popular at all and I'm clueless of the whole marketing and promoting process, so I guess it will take more time. I'm trying to make it happen though. Like, what do I lose by trying? xD Someday, something will come out

I had some naive hopes of developing a career out of writing comics, but since I got into writing military comics, it's become more of a philanthropic venture. Or it would be philanthropic if I was rich enough for such a fancier word than "writes comics and donates proceeds to charity."

I already have a full time job that I don't want to quit, as it gives me a similar sense of joy and satisfaction that finishing a drawing does. Therefore quitting it in order to become a pro artist would be C-R-A-Z-Y, BABY, considering how uncertain it is (and considering my current popularity or lack thereof). But I would lie to you if I said it never crosses my mind in the form of a wet dream.

For me it's a hobby, but someday it'd be nice to make it(or just art in general) a paying hobby ^^;
I'm always worried of making it a job because I'm not sure if that would take the fun out of everything :<

It's one of those "Golly gee, it'd be really swell if I could make money doing this!" situations but I'm in my late 30's and I have a kid and a job and I just don't have to time to devote to it that would allow me to really try to get anything off the ground. So for now it's my "second job I force myself to do that I don't get paid for" which I have labeled as "HOBBY" to keep myself from getting in my own head about it.

I think that most of them that did, started as hobby.
The rest of us still dream of it, or just want to stay low and enjoy creating.

For me, I do not dream of big business, but I will not decline if it comes my way.

I would love for it to become a career, it's been my dream (as cheesy as that may be) to tell stories and show them to everyone. I love doing it and if I could do it as a genuine job I would legitimately be happy about it. Even if it doesn't work out (pls work out T-T) I would still do it on the side, although yea way less frequently.

Definitely a career. I've been doing art commissions and other art related jobs for the past couple years, and so far I haven't starved. Comics are going to take a bit longer to work out, but I'm confident that it will.

Comics are my punishment for some as of yet undisclosed crime.

They will tell me what I have done one day but for now I will continue to draw so as not to draw their ire.

Art have been my career for the past 10 years but its only recently I finally got started with comics!
If it one day can be my career i wouldnt mind that but right now its just a hobby, and a passion, Ive been wanting to tell my storys for so long but always been to afraid of starting, never felt good enough, so now im just enjoying finally drawing my first comic

i feel ya on it, for now making comics is a hobby for me, but i LOVE to draw in general so i try to work hard and manifest my dreams into reality I WILL make this into my career one day!
i need patience and baby steps, as they say right place right time!
