Comics in full colour or monochrome?

my webcomic went through both monochrome and color and i have to say, each one has their own unique flavor and style that you'd lose if you were to switch mediums also, the time it takes to create mono to colored is vastly just greater

here are some pros and cons that i have thought up for each medium

colored
+ gorgeous if done well
+ can easily direct the mood and setting of the story
+ prevents confusion on objects that almost have identical looks
- time consuming
- requires some color theory mastery
- less reader input

Monochrome
+ lets the reader have more creative input to the story
+ faster, as you don't have to always plan what color goes where
+ easier for the eye to read
- can be confusing if a lot of detail has been placed
- can be hard to distinguish objects from each other
- composition mastery is a must

I don't mind either one.
I find the ones that do a mix to be really creative like @oliviasstephen 's comic "Alone" where there's a highlight color.

I've also tried to do a sort of colored monochrome. (not full color yet though, working towards it)

I haven't found too many comics with monochrome (using colors other than greys) , if there is though, please inform me I'd love to check it out!

Its weird because I LOVE manga so you would think I would like black and white over color, but there are some great comics here and I tend to prefer the ones with color..

I have been uploading my pages first in black and white and then in color and I think readers prefer color, I also do think my pages look waaay better in color

It depends. Some of my favorite comics are monochrome (Bone, Maus, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac) and others are in color (The Maxx, Spawn, Calvin & Hobbes on Sundays... wow, I'm really showing my age). Every comic needs to have its own atmosphere. As long as it's good, people will enjoy it.

Considering how poor of a draftsman I shall be for some time, I'm doing stark ink on white. It helps with the awkward feeling of some of the humor. Almost like Tim Burton sketches, I suppose. Maybe one day I'll let myself graduate to color, but not until I start understanding the theory behind it.

I personaly like black and whites. Comics in it's purest form, just lines.

The 'danger' with color for me is that it can be confusing or done wrong in opinion of each individual reader. What i like about comics in general is that you have to use your imagination to make them come alive. Reading a comic for me is like filling in the gaps between pictures. When adding color you're setting a value into this comic. Underlining what's going on here. ( For example; blue, something sad...red, something passionate) If done wrong, it can break my believe in the specific world of the comic. If done right; total awesomness happens!

But that of course is purely my first impression. When you really dive into a comic and the story is good, nothing really matters.

I just now found this out when I started my webcomic, because I wanted it in black and white but I thought that was greyscale. So I made it pure black and white.

It's hard to say which is superior difinitively. I think the more important goal is that the color choices in a comic have a themativc concept that enhances the narrative. There is a full range of quality in both B/W and in color works but the work that has a consistant and interesting color theme is what works best IMO.

I prefer full colour. Colour is such a useful story telling tool, and you get to use it so much in comics as opposed to novels, that it seems a waste to not use it. You can code colours to mean certain things, use preexisting colour connotations, and push characters to the foreground or background with colour.

Since I colour digitally I find it takes me the exact same amount of time to do colour as black and white. So I decided to go big or go home.
