Cost for assistance?

Hello fellow comic creators, my co-creator and I were recently discussing hiring an assistant artist to help with the production of pages for our comics (we’ve been struggling to pump stuff out due to sudden commissions and life events), but we really don’t know what that would cost.

We were hoping for your opinions and/or expertise on the matter. How much would you say is a fair amount per page for help with things like color finalization, lineart, and/or sketching stages of page creation? This would be for commercial rights to use as we plan to publish our comics independently, and of course, we would credit any assistant(s) within the comics themselves. Any answers would be much appreciated as we do not want to mistakenly offer too little in compensation when we do decide to hire someone.

I think commercial rights use would depend if the artist would charge a one time fee or would charge a percentage per physical publish, I'm not an expert so please do take my words with a grain of salt. Though, it might range around $100 or more.

Really think about what the assistant is going to do. Sketching the comic probably will take more time than color finalization, unless your coloring is very detailed.

It depends on what this assistant is supposed to do, their skill levels, where they live, etc. Linearts tend to be more expensive than flats, per example.

For data purposes, I pay a range of 2-3 dollars per panel for my assistant to do renders. My episodes are around 35-45 panels.

I don't personally use assistants for my comic but my day job requires to hire assistants for projects, and we usually pay by the hour. (Around 15-17 USD per hour) We will first ask how long they think they would take to complete that task, so we can roughly estimate how much we will be paying them.
