Could We Get Some Better Smileys?

Not sure if this merits a full fledge thread, but then maybe it would be a convenient place to put it after all. The smileys on the tapastic forum, to put it bluntly...

suck.

But I hardly have the perspective of the entire membership, right? Does anyone else feel that the emotional range of the Tapastic Smileys are somewhat... er, lacking? If so, voice your thoughts here. It's not really a HUGE issue, or anything.

But it's perhaps enough to talk about. Who knows? We might just get some better ones. (Unless everyone thinks that the smileys are awesome, in which case I'll just show myself out. lol.)

I like the "smile" and "blush." So cute!

I would've liked a regular yellow version of the blush to be the "smile," the current "smile" to be the "smiley," and the XD to be added.

Also: laughing (animated), angry, evil, surprise, and the "D:"

It's so low priority, though. Definitely nothing urgent.

I have to say I quite like a few of them, but I find the size quite awkward. It doesn't fit smoothly with the rest of the text. Also, I agree with @keii4ii , this one scares me too.

But uhm, yes, please. The only smiley I really like is this one Because it's cute and just looks like a happy smile.
There are so many artists here on Tapastic, surely we can get someone to collaborate on something that works better and isn't as horrifying.

Personnally, I'd like them not to be compulsory... I like "text smileys" because they're universal so I'd like to be able to deactivate the smiley option (and I agree, creepiest smiley ever.)

lol. I didn't realize, but now that I think about it, 90% of the badness of the smiley's comes from that one being almost always the default that pops up. When dealing with smiley's in purely text form, I tend to type : D first, before anything else. It seems so much better than simply : ).

But then that creepy stalker smiley shows up first thing. brr! XD

(Also, I would love for XD to be added as well. )

It does seem like there's a wide variety of opinions on this. Looking through them, I guess the major problems seem to be:

1. The size of the smiley's seems incongruous, with respect to the size of the text.
2. The : D smiley is one hell of a creepy smiley. <_<

Lol. The site is still relatively new, yes? Over time, maybe we'll get some fresh new ones to play with!

Just type : and then put a word behind it and another :
When you start typing the first letters there's a list popping up with smileys belonging to these letters to choose from. Like this:

Custom emoticons/emoji list?

I was looking through meta.discourse.org and came across this posting about the need for additional emoticons but it looks like the default one we're using is as robust as it gets. We could manually assign certain actions like uploading a custom smiley whenever a user types in ":smile:" but that seems... like a lot of work
