Creators: If your characters could meet you in the real world, what would they ask you...and what would you tell them?

Yeah...I think for a number of my characters, "run, hide, and pray" would be the best approach...

(I definitely don't want Jenny Calhoun or Jack Death mad at me...I don't think I'd survive either of them being mad at me...)

Oh boy, would I be in trouble... I don't think Takara would take well to discovering that she's a fictional character invented by a much weaker baseline human, especially if she finds out she initially was a tertiary character in an animated series pitch, whose main description was "distant and somewhat incompetent superior officer". There's bound to be some violence, fueled by existential dread and indignation.

Hell, even the protagonists of said animated series pitch would have some harsh words for me, I guess, despite being much kinder and more human. "You could create anything, and you created a world of strife and war where humanity is dominated by vampires, as entertainment? What the hell is wrong with you?!" Though I'd have way, way more chances of outrunning them than I would Takara, so that's something.

I think my protagonist Naomi from ‘I Can’t Find My Dead Body’ would question why I stuck her with a ghost for a majority of the story while I’m still working on that myself. She wouldn’t be happy with that response​

My future novel I hope to start in October; the protagonist of that would probably just question my mentality and I can’t really say anything on that yet due to spoilers and all that.

I believe my characters would say something along the lines of: "Why are you putting us through so much pain? Please, make it stop. You have the ability to fix everything, right? Please do it, give us the happiness we deserve" and they wouldn't be wrong XD.

They would probably be really angry with me and rightfully so, and I'd really have no excuse to give them except 'sorry, I was working under the assumption that you weren't actual people with feelings. =/ Oops.'

I mean, put yourself in their shoes: if you had just gotten through a really difficult and dramatic time in your life, even if it ended happily and you learned something about yourself and grew as a person, how would YOU feel if you met with God and they told you that they made those things happen to you on purpose, just for the hell of it and/or for the entertainment of other 'real' beings like themselves??

9 times out of 10, overcoming challenges and 'building character' isn't fun IRL. It's hard and it sucks, and I doubt many people would be happy to hear they were forced into traumatic and painful situations because someone else thought it'd be interesting.
Or, conversely, that their own successes meant nothing, and everything they thought they understood about themselves and how they wanted to conduct their lives was actually decided by someone else in order to 'establish themes' and 'wrap up plot points'. If the character in question has the ability to think critically, I don't think this hypothetical meeting would be a very fun experience.

And for the author, I don't think being confronted with the realization that your fun hobby was causing actual pain to actual people would be very fun either. ^^;
I don't know about other writers, but I don't write because I want to play god-- that implies responsibility, and/or some kind of ideal. No, I write for fun and to explore interesting scenarios and people and feelings...and the fact that there are no real casualties is part of that. Adding sentience and consequences to the mix just ruins the whole experience...I'd probably quit writing altogether.

I feel like there are some characters who'd just shrug it off or be really skeptical about how a person can truly have created people like that. Subo would definitely be on the "I don't even want to know." side, and Rekki would lean towards "that sounds like horsecrap, I refuse to believe it, and even if I did, what good even comes from knowing this?". Rekki is a very pragmatic person, and so if she came to terms with being fictional and believed that I was her creator, she'd probably first say "well, can I get a cool gunblade or something or shoot lasers from my eyes?" and if I said "No. The world I created doesn't work that way" she'd pretty much be like "Well what difference does it make if you're god if asking you for stuff doesn't change anything?"

Where things would immediately get incredibly frustrating to deal with is meeting Errant's resident over-thinking science nerds, Sarin and Jules. Because they would both want to explore the metaphysical implications of the fact that they exist as independent beings capable of thought, but have apparently sprung from a piece of fiction. They'd no doubt propose the theory that I did not, in fact, create them, but may have simply been influenced by their existence in a parallel dimension. They'd want to conduct tests like seeing if I can predict their actions with perfect accuracy, and record whether being separated from my direct control caused this effect to become less potent over time. Because this is what happens when an overthinker creates characters with her own tendency to overthink. Basically, it'd be Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead: Errant Edition.

Ultimately I feel like we'd get along, because my characters are mostly smart or insightful enough to understand there's no way somebody could forsee the possibility that their fictional characters would literally spring to life, so it'd be unfair to pin the responsibility for their problems or character flaws on me. They are what they are, and despite the trials in their lives, they do get to be awesome magical knights with cool powers and good relationships.

Well, except Urien. He'd be furious about being framed as the villain of the story. He'd think it was really unfair because he's totally done nothing wrong. Honestly I would legitimately be scared of what he'd do, and this would be the worst element of "Oops lol my characters came to life", that there's now an eight foot tall narcissistic sociopath with a magic sword firmly convinced that the universe really is out to get him and that he deserves better on the loose.

Was going to give various interactions between characters, but I realized that lore wise IF a fictional character from my story would appear in the real world and meet me then that would imply that I'm actually unoriginal and I'm really actually AM writing what I see from this pocket universe.

Which... would bum me out but basically calm my nerves considering the fact that I'm not responsible for killing characters in brutal ways.

In reality, I'd just be some guy and they'd probably need to stay at my house since I know about them.

"Vic, when are you gonna write the 2nd book about us? You promised you'd do it if we agreed to cut and shorten the 1st part of the book!"

I'd … actually feel guilty about not holding my promise, but would try to explain that I'm unable to get readers interested enough in the 1st part of the book, and until I miraculously do - the 2nd part will have to be placed on hold. >_<;

It would be interesting. I feel like I would get along with quite a few of them, but this is because the majority of them have personalities very similar to my friends. As far as the trauma and plot the characters go through, I never really seen myself as forcing that onto them, rather I see my story telling as a retelling of what they tell me. Take that however you want. I never intend to hurt them, but a story with no ups and downs in not that interesting.

I would get up to so much trouble with Rokuzo. He's a bad influence, and we would get kicked out of so many places.

Ahiko would be a bit harder to speak to. I still have issues getting her character to "talk to me" for writing. But, she would be one of those friend of a friend deals.

Enossa would be be studying everything if she somehow came to our world. So, I don't think i would et to speak to her much.

If i ever met the villans of my story, I would get as far away as possible. Providing that there is not line that they won't cross to get what they want. Realas would be very cold, and I know that he would lie to your face without a twinge of gilt. And Realas casually commits crimes when they suit him. He genuinely scare me.

Well... I think my main characters (Yohan & Andrew) from Lucky Charm would try to murder me for all the dramatic bs I'm making them go through at the moment... Especially after it took TWO seasons for them to finally get together. Ahahaha...

Hm, honestly. My main character Kaprina would ask me why she was born into such a troublesome life. And I'd be like..."you want me to kill you off then?(in the story)" That's what i'd say.
She would probably shut up after that though.
