Did you get attached to your characters?

I'm super excited!

I've been drawing my characters since autumn, but two days ago they finally got their names on my comic page.
It's like naming my children! Did you get attached to your webcomic heroes?

Considering all of my characters are based on real people from my life (including my wife), yes I do. Ironically enough it's because of my strips that I feel closer to all my old friends.

I'm really attached to all of my characters. Even ones from really old projects that I'm no longer interested in working on.

I call my characters "my children" or "my sons" so you can get the idea XD

although I didn't name most of my characters myself, they're my babies ^^ they're a year old about now, which reminds me I should have some anniversary thingy soon. I love my characters yush~
I also have characters whom I created when I was really young, they're also really precious to me.

Heh, of course. I've spent so much time in their heads that it's hard not to. The first time I drew my two main characters sharing a page was actually kind of awesome. Because I already know their stories beginning to end, drawing them on the same page for the first time felt like replaying a beloved video game or rereading a favorite book from the beginning.

I don't let that get in the way of telling their stories, though. Just because I like them doesn't mean I'm going to baby them (the poor saps).

oh, hell yeah, you always get attached to your characters. even the shits. im prone to keeping my villains quite distant and 2D for a long time because of it; i dont want to get too attached to a complete asshole. its bad practice, but hey ho.

that is definitely an exciting moment - its laying out the beginnings of your character to an audience that might love them just as much as you do. theres nothing better than that, honestly

Same here! My main characters are based off my mom and dad, so of course I'd be pretty attached to them as well.

When you've spent so much time forming their character, seeing them realized is a strong feeling. It's hard not to get attached.

I.... might have cried while drawing bits of my webcomic, because I am the softest of marshmallows and care about my characters' lives too much. ^_^;

But then, I get overly emotionally attached to pretty much every character I ever make, including the minor bit-part characters I just put in there are plot-movers or providers of information.

Yes. They've all been with me for so many years and I feel very very guilty when I end up doing terrible things to them, even though I know what's going to happen later on, making them miserable is still pretty upsetting... I also feel ridiculously happy when I can draw them having fun with each other ^_^'...

Funny, I care a lot about them but I don't see them as my children. I know them like friends and love them as such.

Oh definitely. When I wrote the prequel story I was crying while I wrote the ending.
Then my one friend used to talk about how characters "talk to you." It's like that for me too. When I am writing the story I "hear" them in the head and I can picture them and who they are, how they are. (I'm sure a lot of you know what I'm talking about) They are kind of like my kids. It's going to be awful when some don't make it

I am now! When I decided to finally do a webcomic I came up with brand new characters and a new story and at first I didn't care too much about them. The OCs I really loved were the ones from projects I had been playing around with for awhile. Even as I wrote the first few scripts, they were a means to an end. Tell a story so I could get better at drawing. But oh wow, when I started drawing they really started to come to life. Putting myself in their shoes and trying to figure out their reactions and body language made me get into their heads more, and now I am hesitant to do all the horrible stuff I had planned!

I love my characters, I'm always excited when I think about them, and when people ask about them.

But once in a while I really hate them, because I feel like they're not cool or interesting enough. It makes me want to delete every file of them. But then again, they will forever exist in my memory. And after a while they pop up in my mind again and I'll feel sorry for hating them haha.

Yes and no. Yes being I flesh them out, enjoy drawing scenarios for them and imagining their inner workings and no in that they aren't real and I never really feel too connected in the way I would reading about a character in a book/movie/game that I barely know anything about and gradually learn about them.

I will abandon characters when they're story is over with and done. It's a common thing for me, can't help it. My poor characters a gone and my friends constantly ask me about them.
