My parents don't know and they won't. Theyve never really been supportive or nice and well super conservative southern Baptist parents and a (eventually) gay horror webcomic won't mix. I'll keep them out of it like everything else

My family knows about it, but they don't really care; webcomics are an alien concept to the majority of them. My parents like that I'm keeping myself busy with something fun, but they aren't reading it until I print out a whole chapter even though they use phones all the time.

I was lucky to have an extremely supporting and encouraging family, so i never had to keep it a secret.

Also, the fact that i am pretty upfront and attentive about age ratings of my stories saves everyone any chance of uncomfortable moments.

My family does know, but my mom was absolutely indifferent for the genre I've drawing in (science fiction), and my father is largely not interested in keeping tabs on it but still asks for a link to it every now and then to embarrassingly boast to various people about it. I honestly don't know what's the point of boasting that your 30+ jobless son spends all his free time drawing silly childish things, but he has his reasons I guess...
Tried to get some feedback on the upcoming story once before, printed it out for them to read, my mom didn't offered anything concrete nd my dad it seems just forgot to read it and that was it.

No, my webcomic isn't religious at all!They just hate comic (I can't even buy comic book from bookstore) and I don't know why. Maybe they have something bad in the past about it and didn't want me to end up like them..? Hmm, I don't know but they always asked me to be a doctor or pharmacist or a teacher. It is a bit suffocating and yet I'm just glad they didn't disowned me for drawing as hobby now. They finally accept that drawing is my hobby when I was 17 and before I was 17, I always draw at school only. If I draw at home during that time, I might have just dig my own grave​

Hot damn, this is messed up. I've would probably wanted to move out of such toxic environment and to get as far as I can.

Yep and my mom said "well you made comics when you were young, love writing stories, wanted to make a video game, and wanted to make a movie. I'm not surprised. Just try to see if there's a way you can make money." Lmao.

I've been trying to keep it a secret since my comic is a bit weird and not exactly family friendly. My nephew has an instagram and webtoon account and found out about it. Now my mom just started following me on insta too.

I’ve let one couple in my family read some pages I had...and my mom knows I make comics....but I don’t tell anyone I post stuff online at all I just don’t really want them reading my stuff tbh haaaaaa

Wow, terribly sorry to hear that your family burned your last one :0 It still amazes me that people do that sort of thing, but even I have a friend whose parents burned all of her Pokemon cards when she was a kid because her dad was like "Pokemon/video games are for boys only!"...

Yeah several members of my family are aware that I make comics! At the very least my parents, but I'm sure several other people have seen when I rarely share about it on Facebook and such as well (I have an art page and from time to time share posts from it on my personal page). I thankfully never have had a reason to hide what I'm doing from my folks (who I lived with up until this year) but it would have been super hard to since my comic required so much time to make each week I suppose I could have just shut the door and lied about playing video games or something instead but... especially working in physical medium it would have been a challenge haha.

They pretty much do, I am open and they are happy I am making on. Especially my godmother though I have to remind her that what I do is not like pressing a button and a drawing is made in minutes ^-^;

yes they do, they mostly don't read it except for my sister but they know and kind of care =/ sometimes asking how it's going and stuff like that

Yeah my entire family knows, especially since I majored in children's book illustration. I used to print out and send short stories and newspapery comics to my nieces and nephews (My bros are a lot older than me so I have 9 neices and nephews). They loved it and are very bummed out that I don't do that anymore. I don't think my parents read my webcomics, but they know I make stuff, and I talk about it on twitter for the world to see.

Overall, my family does not care, they're just happy I didn't get pregnant at 16 and do hard drugs. I was the easy grandchild. Like...kids can have some real serious problems. Be glad if the worst they do is make a kinda silly webcomic.

As for burning stuff though--I feel like that only encourages children to do it more. I'm pretty sure they've done scientific studies on that (not on comics specifically, but you know what I mean), and while it's been a while since I took psych classes and learned about child development...that treatment tends to backfire.

My family knows. My mom is actually really into my comic and became a patron on patreon. She asks me questions all the time or sometimes calls me up to talk about an update, It's pretty cute.

They just wanted the best for you according to their perspective. To be honest, there is so little money in this industry it's a break it or make it world.

It's funny how for abusive relationships there's a no tolerancy policy attitude, but for abusive parents, who are so much more damaging to a person in so much more ways, immediately apologism response starts. "They love you in their own way", "they think they doing what's best for you" etc... No, they don't. They see you as a tool to enact their wants or plans (I wanted to learn how to play violin, but I never did... Oh, I know, I'll force my kid to do that in my stead!), and you should not be accepting that. Get mad, burn something of theirs in revenge! If you shouldn't feel bad for "just a comic", they shouldn't feel bad for that just a dress!

Sorry, I know the burning part is totally abusive behavior and I'm against that.
But there is nothing else to do but obey for now. Unless you can stand at your own feet then moving out is the next big thing. Just like running from an abusive cult.
