Hello Tapas people!
I want to know what is cell shade and soft shade specially in the webtoons comics seems that a lot of people uses this style of coloring, I don't get what does it means (sorry hehe) maybe someone can show me some examples? I don't use this particular style but I want to experiment so thanks

Seems to me that the Cell one is the hardest to master because you don't blend mid-tones . . .
I do wonder where this style comes from, it's something from animation? do people that works in the Animation industry uses?:hushed:

Cel shading did originate from animation. They used to have to hand-paint every frame of animation, and they would be done on transparent sheets of celluloid plastic, aka cels, which would then be laid overtop their fully-painted backgrounds. Obviously in order to replicate the exact same paint job on every single one of hundreds of thousands of frames, they had to keep it simple, which is where cel shading came in.

I'm always greatful when topics like this pop up as I don't have a clue or know where to start when it comes to stuff life this. :sweat_smile:
